After a 41-year career in higher education, Dave Reed has announced his plans to retire from Michigan Tech on June 30, 2024. Reed has held the position of Vice President for Research since 2001 and is a professor of forest biometrics in the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science. Under his leadership, the University achieved $100 million in research expenditures last year, the highest ever recorded.
The Michigan Tech soccer team returned from the first of two consecutive road weekends with a draw against No. 9 Grand Valley State and a victory against Davenport. MTU battled to a 1-1 draw against the Lakers on Friday (Oct. 13) at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Huskies overcame a 1-0 deficit with a goal by Reilly Lovercheck in the 80th minute — her career first. "I am incredibly proud of our team's remarkable performance today," head coach Turk Ozturk said.
Michigan Tech hockey is still looking for their first win of the season, returning from a trip to upstate New York with a tie and a loss. Tech and St. Lawrence tied 2-2 on Friday (Oct. 27) at Appleton Arena. Marcus Pedersen scored the game-tying goal with 8.2 seconds left. "It was a great goal by Pedersen at the end of the game," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said.
