What Skill Had the Biggest Impact on Your Success as a Real Estate Investor?
I'm still in the learning phase of real estate investing, and one thing I've noticed is that there are countless books, podcasts, and courses available. While they've all been helpful, I'm curious about what made the biggest difference once you started investing for real. If you could go back to the beginning, which single skill would you focus on developing first?
The deadly altar
The MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) folks under Robert “Brainworm” Kennedy are phasing out the artificial dyes in M&Ms at the same time as they are allowing the sale of candy-flavored vapes that appeal mainly to the young to help them get addicted to nicotine after lobbying from the tobacco companies.
Who ya gonna subsidize?
It bears repeating, over and over again, that the health care subsidies the Democrats have been fighting to reinstate are expensive: an estimated $350 billion over 10 years. So, between now and 2035, it would cost that much to make sure that over 4 million people would not lose their healthcare. Many millions more will have their premiums double or more, at a time when costs for most things are increasing, thanks in large part to Trump’s taxes (tariffs) on imported goods.
Letter: Tax cuts for the rich cost far more than health care subsidies

Without going into a bunch of psychological breakdowns, I think we can agree on the surface that our past experiences can dictate our current situation, and our current situation or way of thinking can influence our future self. | by Mark Browne | May, 20
Who and where are you right now????? Why are you there????? What do you see when you look in the mirror????? Are you where you want to be or where you were expected to be? It’s a domino effect. If you have struggles with mentality and insecurity (we all do) from the past or childhood or whatever, then it most certainly will influence your thinking which then in turn influences your future actions. If you’re constantly told you’re not enough as a kid, then you will believe as an adult.
Letters: Food for thought cheaper than real food
Is this what you voted for? My friends who are Maga believers have tried to tell me that Trump has lived up to all of his promises: shutting down the border; decreasing crime and deporting “illegals” (and doing it illegally); stopping fentanyl; bringing manufacturing back here with his tariffs. I think it might not be so simple.
Letter: How many of those promises has Trump fulfilled?
To the editor — My friends who are MAGA believers tried to tell me that Trump has lived up to all of his promises: shutting down the border; decreasing crime and deporting “illegals” (illegally); stopping fentanyl; bringing manufacturing back here with his tariffs. It’s not so simple. It takes a while (years) to build up manufacturing even if there is massive spending by both the government on infrastructure, and by businesses that feel secure.
Is that what you voted for?
So, when the President of the United States said in his State of the Union speech that we spent $8 million on making mice transgender, he got a good laugh out of “his” Republican members of Congress. Now, the President has a huge staff of supposedly smart people, and he claims to be a stable genius, so what do you make of the fact that the money was spent on making transgenic mice?
Letter: Trump would be a disastrous hire - ask his former coworkers
To the editor — If you had a friend who complained that everyone was against him, and the firm you both worked at before you retired fired him for no good reason, you might ask friends why he got fired. Many people said he was just awful to work for, and that they couldn’t recommend him, or ever hire him back. They said he nearly ruined the company as the CEO, and would do so if he was hired again. That is Donald J Trump. Half his Cabinet and his former vice president are not endorsing him.
Speaking of the rich
While we have our eyes on the big picture—the threat to democracy posed by Donald Trump, whose disregard for the rule of law, the electoral process, and the peaceful transfer of power are well documented—let us not forget that his real economic policies favor the rich. Those policies include keeping the massive tax cut for them with crumbs for the rest of us, that was his main accomplishment in his first term.
Letter: Haven't the ultra-rich taken enough already?
To the editor — While we have our eyes on the big picture — the threat to democracy posed by Donald Trump, who disregards the rule of law, the electoral process and the peaceful transfer of power — let us not forget that his real economic policies favor the rich. Those policies include keeping the massive tax cut for them with crumbs for the rest of us. That was his main accomplishment in his first term.
The emperor has no clothes
The recent Presidential Debate revealed once again that the emperor wears no clothes. Oh sure, Donald Trump claimed in the “Spin Room” afterwards and in the days following that he “won” the debate, that he was fully clothed in ermine robes and velveteen pantaloons and perhaps one of those frilly neck things that emperors and kings of yore favored. Make no mistake, he was revealed in all his naked horror.
The big lie lives on
Just because someone repeats a lie a thousand times doesn’t make it any truer. It does become more familiar, and comes to seem like it must be true. And authoritarians all over the world have used this technique to convince their followers not to believe their eyes or use their common sense. The bigger the lie, the better. Remember that Donald Trump kept saying before the 2016 election that it was rigged. But there was not a peep about it being rigged when he won.
Correcting the ‘corrections’
In his letter to the February 7 edition of the Sentinel, Darby Hanson of Goldendale made a series of factual errors in trying to correct what he saw as factual errors in a previous letter from Steve Heitmann regarding climate change/global warming.
