A Blast From The Past: the UCSD p-System
I've been thinking about the UCSD P-System a lot lately, and I thought I'd write about it a bit, and about bytecode systems more-generally. And along the way, write some interesting code. We are coming up on the 50th anniversary of the first release of UCSD Pascal, and I thought it would be fun to poke around inside of it, and develop some tools (in Rust) to bring this "portable operating system" to modern hardware.
Plain C++ Code 10 times faster than inline assembler. Why?

A word for moving from one website to another
Here's the situation: I browse Tumblr, and then I go to, let's say, Youtube. What is the word for the action? The noun? It's not conversion, or click-through, I just move from one website to another. There are many verbs for this action.

The many "abominations" of Nugganism have elements of the religious laws of Judaism, Mormonism, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehova's Witnesses, Islam, and many other real-world religions.
Did Aragorn and Gandalf ever venture into Mordor?
During the council of Elrond, Aragorn waves off any discussion of the perils of his search for Gollum with this statement: There is little need to tell of them. If a man must needs walk in sight of the Black Gate, or tread the deadly flowers of Morgul Vale, then perils he will have. It sounds like he got really close to Mordor, but didn't try to get in.
