Why Château Guiraud Is a Premier Cru Classé in Sauternes’ 1855 Classified Sweet Wines
Sauternes has long been one of the most evocative names in French wine, and within this golden corner of Bordeaux, Château Guiraud holds a particularly intriguing place. Classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the historic 1855 ranking, it shares the top tier of sweet wine estates with neighbors like Château d’Yquem and Suduiraut. Yet Guiraud has forged its own identity, pairing centuries of tradition with a bold commitment to biodiversity and organic viticulture.
The Solomon Islands remain one of the South Pacific’s least developed tourism destinations, which is precisely what makes them so compelling. Spread across almost 1,000 islands and coral atolls, this archipelago offers world-class diving, empty surf breaks, rainforest-cloaked mountains and a living Melanesian culture that has changed little in generations.

Now is the time for firms to ensure they are aware of the sustainability characteristics of their operations and supply chains, so that risks and new expectations can be managed well.
Global green policies and commodity markets
Part three of our three-part Insight series covers the impact on commodity markets China, the USA and Europe are pursuing different strategies to establish their leads in future green markets. In mid-2022, the US government launched the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). EU policymakers are concerned that the financial support to US-based green businesses offered by the IRA could make Europe relatively less attractive as a green-tech location, adding to pressure from Chinese competitors.
USA needs more incentives beyond the IRA to meet its climate targets
The USA rejoined the Paris Accord in 2021 through a Presidential Order signed by US President Joe Biden. Since then, they have pledged to reduce emissions by 52% by 2030, compared to 2005-levels and to reach net-zero by 2050. In our view, one of the most efficient ways to accelerate decarbonisation is by imposing a carbon price.

This Insight is the second in a two-part series looking at decarbonisation trends and their impact on commodity markets. Here we detail the different approaches to carbon pricing, how CRU undertakes carbon price modelling and the ramifications of carbon pricing on commodity markets. The analysis here builds on part one which explained why decarbonising commodity value chains is challenging, and the implications of this for commodity markets.

Decarbonisation: its threats and opportunities
In this insight we lay out the key implications of decarbonisation and the energy transition for commodity markets and companies. Green technology costs will fall but there remains much hype, hope and hyperbole about the trajectory of technology development. Decarbonisation is vital, but it will be expensive and it will be challenging – beware forecasts that suggest otherwise. This is the first of a two-part series examining decarbonisation.
Commodity markets will need to adapt to new financial disclosures on climate and biodiversity
Author Mark Jeavons Head of Sustainability Author Frank Eich Economist The financial markets are playing an increasingly important role in driving the energy transition. To do so effectively, they need transparent and comparable information on financial risks. Over the last few years there has been a wave of global financial disclosure initiatives, starting with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). G7 countries are now legislating the TCFD’s recommendations.
Commodity markets will need to adapt to sustainability disclosures
The second phase of the EU Sustainable Financial Disclosure Regulation entered force in January 2023. To fight greenwashing and improve comparability across products, financial market participants and financial advisers are now required to publish Principal Adverse Impact assessments to show how their investment decisions and advice impact on the environment or human rights. The latest move in the EU is part of a wider trend globally to improve disclosure regulations, including on biodiversity.
