What to say when you win a promotion over an older colleague
Promotions are exciting but they can get complicated quickly – especially if an older, more experienced colleague was passed over for the job. Unfortunately, you can't control who was selected or even if your new subordinates are angry about the choice. And if you address the hurt feelings directly, you just might make the situation worse. Luckily, it is possible to move a team past its anger.

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Stuff, or more formally, “A guide to Stuff made and built in Rhode Island.” For manufacturers and builders, these are the best and worst of times. Best, because business is strong and future orders promise continued work. Worst, because they can’t hire people fast enough to capitalize on the opportunities the strong economy is giving them, or in some cases, to replace baby boomers who are retiring.
It’s about learning

He arrived in the United States a little more than a decade ago when his American-citizen wife said the U.S. was going to be home.
To be relevant, successful companies listen, learn and communicate
In this time of instantaneous and ubiquitous communications, it would not seem difficult for any enterprise to know what its key stakeholders are thinking or doing at any moment. All are simple questions, but getting the correct answers, it turns out, is not a simple thing.
