How to Size Compressor Anti-surge Valves
Anti-surge valves protect centrifugal compressors from potentially catastrophic damage, but they are typically grossly oversized for common operating conditions. My article in the December 2024 issue of Automation.com, titled “The Art of Compressor Anti-surge Valve Sizing and Selection,” discusses an approach to anti-surge valve sizing that takes into account all operating modes to prevent valve damage and premature failure in a cost-effective manner.
Control valve selection for the lithium battery value chain
As the world continues to focus on greenhouse gas reduction and sustainability, it has become clear that lithium batteries will play a dominant role. Electric vehicles provide an immediate means to reduce the carbon footprint of the automotive and transportation sectors, which account for 11% of global emissions.
Activate diagnostic alerts to leverage digital valve controller capabilities
Digital valve controllers provide many more benefits than a simple valve positioner, which end users can deploy to improve operations. A digital valve controller ensures the control valve position matches the commanded signal, but it also simplifies and automates valve commissioning and calibration, and it provides a means to provide significant control valve assembly data to the control system.
Mitigating Control Valve Noise
Manufacturing and production facilities tend to be noisy, especially where fluids flow through pipes. Control valves can be one of the sources of noise contributing to these conditions. In a Chemical Engineering article, Reducing the Noise from Control Valves, Emerson’s Mark Nord describes ways to reduce noise levels emitted from these control valves. He opens by describing decibels and the dBA scale in how it corrects for loudness at varying frequencies.
Reducing the Noise from Control Valves - Chemical Engineering
Attenuation for high-noise control valves need not be difficult or expensive The world does not lack for noise. It pummels us from all sides, emanating from traffic, political commercials, and your annoying neighbor’s backyard party. Industrial plants have their share of noise as well, and control valves are a common source. This article explains why control valves make noise, and it shows how these sounds can be abated in a cost-effective manner.
Desuperheater Application Best Practices
An ever-increasing need for steam at specific temperatures and pressures exists in many modern plants. Fortunately, significant improvements have been made to increase operational thermal efficiency and heat rates by the precise, coordinated control of the temperature, pressure and quality of this steam. But, much of the steam produced in power and process plants today is not at the required conditions for each application, so conditioning is required, often by a desuperheater system.
This is no basis for a Trump impeachment
Tom Steyer’s current ad on TV promoting the impeachment of President Trump is so repugnant. There is absolutely no basis (high crimes and misdemeanors) for impeachment. Just because his candidate did not win or he doesn’t like what the president says or does is not a cause for impeachment. I don’t agree with everything President Trump says or does, but he is our duly elected president and I continue to support him and his administration in implementing his campaign promises.
Iowa wingding speakers define party values
Both political parties of Iowa are bringing in their speakers for their big wingdings. The Democrats are bringing in Alec Baldwin for their Jefferson-Jackson dinner and the Republicans are bringing in Sean Spicer for their Reagan dinner. Alec Baldwin, a progressive Democrat who has a bachelor of fine arts degree, is a belligerent, ill-tempered narcissist who lives his life in a fantasy world as an actor and comedian.
