Abstract References and Notes Abstract Two-dimensional electron systems in a magnetic field provide a paradigm for unraveling the complexity of electron-electron interactions. In particular, because of the large number of possible electron states at the same energy level, such a two-dimensional system provides a rich playground for studying the different ways electrons can be arranged. Consequently, there are a plethora of many-particle ground states with similar energies to be explored.
