Predicting uptake and elimination kinetics of chemicals in invertebrates: a technical note on residual variance modeling
Abstract Toxicokinetic models for predicting contents of nanomaterials and other toxic chemicals are often fitted without evaluation of the residual variance structure. The aim of the present study was to evaluate various residual variance structures, assuming either homoscedasticity or heteroscedasticity, when fitting non-linear toxicokinetic one-compartment models for predicting uptake, bioaccumulation and elimination of chemicals in invertebrate organisms.
A simple in vitro fermentation model to detect alterations in gut microbiota-dependent bile acid profiles
Abstract A previous in vivo study showed that lincosamide antibiotics (lincomycin and clindamycin) could induce changes in the gut bacterial community, leading to significant changes in fecal bile acid profiles. Herein, our aim is to develop an animal alternative in vitro model for studying gut microbiota-dependent bile acid profiles induced by xenobiotics.
Ageing, dissolution and biogenic formation of nanoparticles, how do these factors affect uptake kinetics of silver nanoparticles in earthworm?
The soil represents an important environmental compartment that can be regarded as a final sink for metal nanoparticles including silver particles (Ag-NPs). Assessing realistic exposure scenarios, including bioavailability of Ag-NPs for soil organisms requires taking into account that Ag-NPs can undergo physico-chemical transformations, such as sulphidisation, before interacting with organisms.
Metal uptake and distribution in the zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryo: differences between nanoparticles and metal ions
The zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryo (ZFE) is an established test organism to investigate the toxicity of chemicals and is suitable to assess the hazardous potential of nanoparticles. There is little knowledge on metal internalization and distribution in these organisms, as well as on the underlying kinetic processes.
