No Effects of rTMS on Performance Monitoring and Attentional Bias in Patients With Alcohol Use Disorder: A Pilot Study
1 Introduction Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a condition characterized by the inability to limit alcohol intake, accompanied by intense cravings, and is associated with substantial distress or impairment [1]. Worldwide, 5.1% of the burden of disease and injury is attributable to use of alcohol, as measured in disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) [2]. Given the substantial burden it poses, effective treatment options for AUD patients are imperative.
Author Correction: Probing prefrontal-sgACC connectivity using TMS-induced heart–brain coupling - Nature Mental Health
Correction to: Nature Mental Health https://doi.org/10.1038/s44220-024-00248-8, published online 26 April 2024 In the version of the article initially published, in Fig. 2b, the Beam and 5-cm rule markers were switched and have now been corrected in the HTML and PDF versions of the article. About this article Dijkstra, E.S.A., Frandsen, S.B., van Dijk, H. et al. Author Correction: Probing prefrontal-sgACC connectivity using TMS-induced heart–brain coupling. Nat. Mental Health (2024).
Probing prefrontal-sgACC connectivity using TMS-induced heart–brain coupling - Nature Mental Health
Abstract Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced heart–brain coupling (HBC) has been proposed as a technique capable of validating target engagement of the frontal-vagal pathways, without the need of fMRI-guided neuronavigation. In parallel, recent fMRI-guided, personalized TMS protocols aim to target prefrontal regions that are negatively connected to the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC), as these targets may have better antidepressant efficacy.
Biomarker-driven stratified psychiatry: from stepped-care to matched-care in mental health - Nature Mental Health
Deciding between treatments in depression relies on trial-and-error following the stepped-care approach (escalating to more intensive treatments after treatment failures). Recent research is focused on biomarkers and precision psychiatry; however, we argue that stratified psychiatry could be a practical alternative for individuals with mental health disorders.
Identification of psychiatric disorder subtypes from functional connectivity patterns in resting-state electroencephalography
Abstract The understanding and treatment of psychiatric disorders, which are known to be neurobiologically and clinically heterogeneous, could benefit from the data-driven identification of disease subtypes.
Predicting sex from brain rhythms with deep learning
EEG data were obtained from six different laboratories that were extracted from the Brain Resource International Database (New York, Rhode Island, Nijmegen, London, Adelaide and Sydney). All participants were adults (mean age 43.38 (18.42?SD) y; range 18–98?y; 47% males).
Electroencephalogram Neurofeedback: Application in ADHD and Epilepsy
The use of electroencephalogram neurofeedback has been studied in a number of psychiatric disorders, especially for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, many clinicians are not aware of this treatment and the level of evidence supporting its use.
Open access is tiring out peer reviewers
Scientists like to complain about peer review. No researcher wants to be told that their work is flawed, unworthy or just plain wrong. But in recent months, I received reviews of my own submitted papers that suggest reviewers simply did not read the manuscript properly. This is not nitpicking over matters of opinion or interpretation. In one instance, a reviewer complimented the double-blind placebo-controlled nature of our study, and made methodological comments related to that.
