Mary Carroll Murphy, a trailblazing business owner and former Fortune 500 executive, was born and raised in Western Massachusetts. In 1990, Digital Equipment Corporation relocated her to Bedford, New Hampshire, to lead marketing for their state-of-the-art integrated office systems. Over her distinguished career, she has lived and worked in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, California, and internationally, earning numerous accolades in the information technology and financial services sectors.
Currently, she helms Cost Cures, an innovative software company established in 2024 in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Cost Cures is pioneering in providing transparency for dental, healthcare, and vision costs to mitigate the high costs of healthcare nationwide. The firm is developing an AI-based database to help users find affordable rates for various medical services. Furthermore, her team is working to incorporate telemedicine and medically trained concierge services, accessible through their website and a dedicated app.
In addition to her corporate responsibilities, she and her husband started Black Shoals Farm in 2022, a non-GMO and chemical-free farm located in Francestown, New Hampshire. This venture focuses on sustainable agriculture, producing fruits, vegetables, edible flowers, and herbs.
In her earlier career, Murphy was notably the first Charles Schwab Independent Branch franchisee in 2011. She excelled in this role, growing her assets under management to nearly $1 billion by early 2022. Her pioneering efforts were recognized when Charles Schwab instituted the Charles Schwab Champion Award in her honor, which she received before selling her franchise in mid-2022.
Her journey began in 1979 at what is now Eversource, where she quickly realized her interest in leveraging technology within the insurance industry. This insight led her to ITT/Hartford Insurance Group in 1982, where she ascended from a Technical Analyst to a Director. Her career trajectory took her to Europe with IBM/Lotus Development, where she led a division that collaborated with governments and large corporations to deploy public Internet and email services globally.
After taking a hiatus in 2001 to care for her parents, she earned a Master's degree from Rivier University in 2004 and briefly taught before reentering the finance sector. During her time in financial services, she held multiple certifications and licenses and provided comprehensive financial strategies to high-net-worth clients.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State College, where she was notably active in extracurriculars, and a Master's degree from Rivier University, both of which laid the groundwork for her extensive career.
Her philanthropic efforts include significant contributions to local organizations and charities, emphasizing her commitment to community service. In addition to her professional and charitable endeavors, she serves on several boards, including as a trustee at Rivier University, where she supports the institution's mission and operations.
Mary Carroll Murphy resides in Francestown, New Hampshire, with her husband. They share a passion for sustainable living and enjoy caring for their Belgian Malinois and Jubilee Orpington chickens.
