Men’s and women’s soccer fight hard as season wraps up

The teams competed against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, Oct. 21 and The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Saturday, Oct. 24. Both teams drew against Rutgers-Newark and lost to TCNJ. The men tied 2-2 against the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders and lost 0-4 against the TCNJ Lions.
Ramapo swim competes at Tri-Meet
The men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Oneonta, N.Y. this past weekend to compete in the Hartwick College Tri-Meet against Hartwick and Oswego State University. The teams were unsuccessful against both teams. The men fell to Hartwick 120-141 and 103-158 against Oswego State. Still, the Roadrunners came home with six individual first place finishes across the two meets — led by Doruk Evcimen, Max Hilzen and Adam Wright.
Wellness is Now busts myths with Haunted Thoughts tabling
As part of Depression Awareness Month, Wellness is Now (WIN) hosted a Haunted Thoughts tabling on Thursday, Oct. 22 in hopes to dispel some common myths about depression and connect students with the resources available to them on campus. When visiting the table, students were welcomed to play an interactive game, guessing whether or not different statements about depression were myths or facts.

Leading the Roadrunners was Valentina Palen, hitting .316 with eight kills across the three matches.
Ramapo soccer strikes hard
Fall is officially in full swing, and the Roadrunners are here to stay. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, both the men and the women’s soccer teams competed against Rowan University, followed by William Paterson University on Saturday, Oct. 10. The women’s team sits at 3-3-3 following these matchups, the men at 7-3-2. The women first played at home against the Rowan University Profs, falling 0-2, extending the Profs’ win streak to eight straight wins.
Pridefest lights up Ramapo campus
The grove was glowing rainbow last Wednesday, Oct. 7, as the Ramapo community celebrated their ninth annual Pridefest, a day to honor and uplift LGBTQ+ voices and stories on campus. Organized by the Women’s Center & LGBTQ+ Services as part of Queer and Trans History month, Pridefest fostered the inclusivity and joy the month represents.
Noah Kahan’s newest single ‘Draw You Out’ draws you in
Two of my favorite things in the world are YA dystopian books they make into movies and songs with incredibly depressing lyricism, particularly when that lyricism is that of Noah Kahan. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately, depending how you look at it) those two worlds have collided. On Friday, Oct.
Ramapo soccer competes against Kean and Stockton
Conference play is well underway for Ramapo soccer, with both the men’s and women’s teams taking on Kean University and Stockton University this past week. The Roadrunners now sit at 7-6 overall, 2-1 in conference play. First, the team took on the Rowan University Profs at home, falling 0-3 (25-19, 25-15, 28-26). The Profs took hold of the first two sets, but in the third, the Roadrunners did not give up easily.
Cornell’s failure to protect Jane Doe should be a wakeup call
This article contains content that may be sensitive to some readers. Over the past few weeks, it has been hard for me to compose my thoughts and form the proper words for the ongoing Cornell University sexual assault investigation. What I feel is something deeper than sadness and more profound than rage, and I can’t quite place it. A former Cornell University student alleged that in 2024, she was raped by seven members of a fraternity at their house on campus.
Women’s volleyball on five match win streak
The Roadrunners are not done yet. Women’s volleyball has picked up their fourth and fifth straight wins against Centenary University and Rutgers-Camden. These wins bring the team to a 7-3 overall record, 2-0 in the NJAC. First, the Roadrunners beat out the Centenary Cyclones 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19) on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Roadrunners struggled to maintain a lead in the beginning of the first set until Sydney Tramontana and Asya Akar put up back-to-back kills to secure the lead.
Ramapo soccer strikes again
Ramapo soccer continues to impress, with both the men’s and women’s teams going on hot streaks. The men’s team is at 5-2-1 overall after two wins against Saint Elizabeth University and University of St. Thomas, while the women sit at 3-0-2 after a tie with Penn College. On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the men grabbed a decisive shutout win against Saint Elizabeth University, 9-0 in non-conference play.
Rest assured: Students debate fall break at Ramapo
PRO As I enter my fourth year at Ramapo, the fall semester has consistently started to drag towards the middle to end of October. Assignments and midterms are piling up, the weather is dreary and it all just feels like too much. When you’re in the thick of it like that, there is absolutely nothing worse than seeing your friends at other schools have a few days off. I acknowledge it can feel disruptive to academic schedules, and might push back finals or other events, but it feels so necessary.
Ramapo safety fair reminds students that help is always there
Ramapo held its annual Safety Fair last week to promote campus wellness across all areas of student life. The Arch and Grove were littered with tables of different campus and local resources available to students, where they could go and speak with those who are here to help us. Students were able to visit any of the tablings to get information they needed, and take home some goodies and additional resources.
CCEC hosts informative voter registration tabling events
In the spirit of inspiring political awareness and engagement on campus, the Civic and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) held two events last week to commemorate National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Constitution Day on Thursday, Sept. 17. For National Voter Registration Day, CCEC held a block-party style tabling event in the Arch courtyard where they invited students to come by to learn more about voter registration, play games and enjoy some food.

Ramapo hit .223 in the first match of the day, with 41 kills on 121 total attempts and 14 errors.
Lizzy McAlpine’s newest album plays to her strengths
If there was an award for listening to the most Lizzy McAlpine across a two-month period, I think I would’ve won it a few summers ago. Her third album, “Older (and Wiser),” is absolute perfection in my eyes and will forever remain one of my favorite albums of all time. I thought nothing could ever come close to the feelings “Soccer Practice” and “Vortex” off of “Older (and Wiser)” gave me, and then she released her fourth album “Angel,” on Sept. 18. “Angel” is exactly what I had hoped it would be.
Women’s Soccer moves up in rankings
Women’s soccer has moved to 3-0-1 overall after scoring two wins against St. Joseph’s University, Long Island Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and Penn State University, Abington campus on Saturday, Sept. 19. The event was opened up by Megan Johnston, coordinator of Health Promotion in the Center for Student Wellness on campus.
Season five of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ was redundant
Season five of everyone’s favorite Mormon influencer reality show that no one ever asked for — “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” (SLOMW) — dropped on Thursday, Sept. 10, and as if I was being forced, I immediately tuned in. It’s the thing I love to hate and hate to love, but this season might just have been the nail in the coffin for me. The show has always been relatively nothing burger, for lack of a better term.
Women’s volleyball starts strong
The fall 2026 season is in full swing for Ramapo’s women’s volleyball, starting off the season with a 2-3 record after their first five matches. At the top of the season, the Roadrunners took on New York University (NYU) on Sept. 1, falling to the Violets 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17). NYU put up 71 points to Ramapo’s 47 in the match, hitting .278 and .121, respectively.
‘The Pitt’ season two is intense
Season two of HBO Max’s “The Pitt” has come to an end, finally letting that poor staff go home after the world’s most unimaginably terrible shift. So much happened throughout this season — or this shift, if you will — that I don’t even know where to begin. In my review of season one, I commended the show for focusing primarily on the medicine as opposed to the “drama” or character storylines. This season sort of rendered that statement void. That shouldn’t necessarily be interpreted as a bad thing.
‘You, Me & Tuscany’ is unintentionally hilarious
Picture this. You just lost your job as a professional house sitter, as one does, and you meet a cute Italian guy named Matteo while drowning your sorrows in a hotel bar. He tells you he has a fancy villa in Tuscany. What is your logical next step? Flying to Italy and breaking and entering into his home, of course. Shockingly enough, breaking and entering into said Italian stranger’s home doesn’t exactly go to plan.
Nashville librarian fired for refusing to comply with book ban
Recently, a beloved librarian from Nashville was fired for refusing to comply with her county library board’s vote to remove more than 100 books covering LGBTQ+ related topics from the children’s section to the adult section.
Slán!: Students debate the ‘Irish goodbye’
PRO A quiet departure from a party without saying goodbye, also known as the “Irish goodbye,” should be more acceptable. The common practice gets a bad rep, with people assuming that it is rude and disrespectful. However, in social situations, it can almost be the more respectful and polite thing to do. I’m sure if you’ve ever tried to leave a party, a family function or holiday, you know that a simple goodbye just never works out.
Men’s volleyball ends season with victories
Men’s volleyball closed the 2026 season out on a high note, taking home wins in their final two games against Bard College and John Jay College. The team finishes out the season at 12-12 overall. On Wednesday, April 1, the Roadrunners took on the Bard College Raptors at home, taking a hard fought five-set 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11) win. The team hit .248 overall against Bard, with 57 kills on 137 attempts and 23 errors. In the fifth set, for the win, the Roadrunners hit .353.
Commuter Appreciation Week holds several events
Ramapo showed love to its commuters this past week, hosting several events from March 30-April 4 for Commuter Appreciation Week. The week began with Commuter Pickups on March 30, and ended with an Iced Coffee Bar on April 3, with many exciting events in between to show appreciation for the campus’ commuter population.
Conan Gray’s ‘The Best’ is a tearjerker
Just when I thought Conan Gray reached maximum sad-song capacity on his most recent album “Wishbone,” he surprised fans with the release of new single “The Best” on Friday, March 27, as part of “Wishbone (Deluxe)” set to be released on April 24. Gray teased “The Best” on his most recent tour, which I was lucky enough to attend, and take it from me — the studio version is just as gut-wrenching as it is live, if not more.
The unspoken truth beneath reality television
Reality television is one of life’s simplest joys. It’s mindless. You turn it on, pretend you don’t care about what’s happening, and then get totally and completely sucked into the vortex of it and can’t tear your eyes away. To a certain degree, this is innocuous and everybody wins. What happens, though, when it’s no longer harmless? When we’re watching someone in the darkest time of their life?
Men’s volleyball takes home win against Immaculata University
Ramapo men’s volleyball enjoyed a swift victory over Immaculata University on Friday, March 27. The 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) win over Immaculata brought the Roadrunners to 10-12 overall this season. Leonard competed in the 800-meter race in a field of 20 competitors, finishing 19th with a time of 2:15.29. This was Leonard’s second appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships in her three years at Ramapo.
VAS host first show and tell display
Friends Hall was transformed into a vibrant display of all kinds of artistic talent on Wednesday, March 4, for the Visual Art Society’s (VAS) “Show and Tell exhibition”. “Our idea was to continue supporting the arts at Ramapo by allowing students to display, talk about and even perform their artistry in a gallery space,” said VAS President Nicole Dipré over email to The Ramapo News.

Ramapo’s men’s volleyball continues to hold their own, playing strong matches against Baruch College and Bard College, taking one loss and one win. The team stands at 8-9 overall, as they head into the final stretch of the season. On Thursday, March 5, the Baruch College Bearcats narrowly beat out the Roadrunners 3-2 (18-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-27, 15-13) for an action-packed five sets. The team finished in fifth place overall with 44.50 points. On the leaderboard for the Roadrunners on day two was Dale Leonard, taking the winning title in the 800m race with a time of 2:12.37. Leonard’s time not only awarded her NJAC Champion, it was also a new best time for Ramapo, and the 11th best across NCAA DIII this season.
Megan Moroney’s ‘Cloud 9’ is fun
In the past couple of weeks, that dreaded feeling of boredom of all of my usual playlists has crept up on me again. Nothing seems to excite me or really scratch that musical itch in my brain. With that, I swore I would try to expand my musical horizons, and try out some new artists and albums I typically would’ve passed over.
Women’s Herstory Month kicks off with proclamation
March is internationally recognized as Women’s History Month, and on Monday, March 2, Ramapo College proclaimed the month of March as Women’s Herstory Month. The Women’s Center and LGBTQ+ Services held a proclamation and keynote speaker as a kick off to the month-long celebration of women’s history.
‘Tell Me Lies’ comes to anticlimactic close
If you would’ve asked me in high school what my absolute nightmare college experience would be, my answer could never have come close to the living hell that is the life of the unrelentingly toxic friend group — if you could even call them friends — in Hulu’s “Tell Me Lies.” Over the three season run of this series, each and every character is put through one brutal and life-altering event after another. It makes for entertaining television, but sends a shiver down my spine. Last Tuesday, Feb.
Men’s volleyball takes home three straight wins
Ramapo’s men’s volleyball team went on a three-game win streak against Cairn University, SUNY Purchase College and Immaculata University. The Roadrunners now sit at 6-7 overall. The first win came against the Cairn University Highlanders on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with a swift 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22) victory for the Roadrunners. The men’s team finished out the weekend in eighth place, the women not far behind in ninth. On day one the women had an explosive meet, recording the second fastest 800 freestyle relay in program.

‘Finding Her Edge’ is a mess of a show
I am a firm believer that to be cringe is to be free. An area in which this motto particularly reigns true is in Netflix original romance series that are — on paper — quite literally terrible but there is something about them that I simply can’t look away from. This time, “Finding Her Edge” came across my desk (TikTok For You Page), and who am I to say no? This show has it all. Competitive figure skating, grief, family drama, financial struggle — and above all else — a love triangle.
Maisie Peters’ new single is pure girly fun
The air outside may be bitterly cold, but with the release of her latest single “My Regards,” for Maisie Peters — spring has sprung. The song is bright, fun and altogether not very serious — exactly the kind of vibes I am trying to bring into the rest of 2026. “My Regards” is Peters’ fourth single release ahead of her third album “Florescence,” which will make landfall into all of my playlists this upcoming May.
First-Gen Center and EOF host First Gen Voices
On Monday, Feb. 9, the First-Generation Student Center and Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF) hosted First-Gen Voices, an opportunity to facilitate an open conversation amongst the Ramapo community regarding first-generation students and the resources the school currently provides, and should seek to provide in the future.
Track and Field competes in Scarlet Knight Open
On Friday, Feb. 6 members of Ramapo’s men’s and women’s track & field teams competed amongst DI, DII and DIII athletes at the Scarlet Knight Open hosted by Rutgers University in New York, N.Y. For the women, Ashley Gordon competed in the 60m dash College preliminaries, finishing in 8.09 seconds. The men’s 4 by 400m relay team placed third overall with a combined time of 3 minutes and 27.86 seconds.
Noah Kahan’s ‘The Great Divide’ is heartfelt
Sometimes in life, if we’re lucky enough, we will come across a musician whose songs just speak to us. You can’t quite describe it, but you just feel so understood when listening to their songs. Since I was a senior in high school, for me, that artist has been Noah Kahan. I became a fan of his when he first released his single “Stick Season,” to which he owes a good portion of his success over the past three years.
Volleyball goes up against Hunter College
Ramapo’s men’s volleyball traveled to New York, N.Y. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, where they took the fall against Hunter College, 1-3 (26-23, 23-25, 25-27, 21-25). The Roadrunners now stand at 2-5 overall. Ramapo accumulated a total of 42 kills to Hunter’s 50, led by Jan Tracz with 11 total kills across the four sets. Sebastian Rodriguez and Josh Barrett also led the Roadrunners with seven kills each. Tracz, Rodriguez and Barrett also led the Roadrunners in aces against the Hunter Hawks.
‘The Pitt’ season 2 is off to a great start
HBO Max’s “The Pitt” is back, and if there is one thing I can say with certainty, it’s that it seems I have no idea what a bad day really is. Season two picks up several months after season one leaves off, with the infamous Fourth of July shift — what is quickly revealed to be Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle)’s final shift before he leaves on a sabbatical.
The Beckham family drama should be none of our business
Recently, Brooklyn Beckham, the nepo baby of David and Victoria Beckham, took to his Instagram account to air out his family business and finally confirm the family rift rumors once and for all. Let me put it very plainly — could anything matter less? The lion’s share of Brooklyn’s qualms with his family are in his parents’ — particularly his mother’s — treatment of his wife, Nicola Peltz.
