Splunk : RUM Frontend Error Monitoring is Now Generally Available!
Debugging errors is an essential component to SRE and developer workflows. "How do we prioritize and isolate JavaScript errors more effectively?" is a top challenge we hear from engineering teams looking to improve end-user experience. Therefore, we are excited to announce the general availability of Splunk RUM frontend error monitoring.
Understanding Where You Fit in the Web Performance Maturity Curve
We all know that faster is better. Research and results clearly indicate that faster experiences with fewer errors result in increased usage, conversion, and revenue. With the desire to improve business metrics in mind, organizations often seek immediate improvements in customer experience across digital properties. However, without proper planning and coordination, these attempts consistently fail.
Roundup: Mobile Updates Include XCFramework Agent, Dynamically Linked Libraries, Stack Trace Improvements
We hold a big place in our heart for mobile developers. While most mobile monitoring only covers crashes, our expansive mobile SDKs give you full context about the speed and performance of your native applications. You can use the SDKs to recreate user paths that lead to crashes or bugs, get visibility into backend services and APIs, and add custom metrics. Given the responsibility we have to mobile devs, we’re always improving our feature set.

To better equip reliability teams, we’re excited to announce that results from all synthetic monitor types are now available in New Relic One.
Monitor Front-End Performance With Interactivity Metrics In New Relic
Today, web pages are as dynamic as they’ve ever been, and you need more than one metric to understand your site’s performance and your end-user experience. User-centric performance metrics are critical for frontend development teams who want to proactively measure, benchmark, and improve their digital customer experience. As a website developer, you know you can’t focus on the visual elements alone. Your customers want an engaging, responsive experience when they visit your site.
How to Use W3C Trace Context with New Relic APM
Vic Soares, a Director of Product Management at New Relic, contributed to this post. A version of this post previously ran on The New Stack. Distributed tracing is an essential tool for developers working with highly-distributed microservices applications, allowing them to track event interactions that traverse multiple microservices. But not all tracing tools have followed the same methods for passing contextual information, via HTTP headers, as traces move from service to service.
The Most Popular Real User Monitoring Tool
New Relic Browser is the most deployed real user monitoring (RUM) tool in the world. Originally an extension of New Relic APM, Browser was designed to give developers and software engineers context around their end-users’ experiences. Like all New Relic products, Browser provides the quick context necessary to solve problems in the modern software stack.
New Relic Synthetics Update: A Roundup of New Capabilities
Over the last few months, the New Relic Synthetics team has been hard at work, delivering some critical capabilities to enhance the ease, efficiency, and security with which our customers monitor applications critical to their businesses. At the same time, this also means we’re saying goodbye to some legacy capabilities that we’ve improved in other ways.
How To Know Which To Use
As COVID-19 has accelerated the world’s migration online, companies are more focused than ever on their digital experience. Keeping customers happy through website speed, availability, and performance is paramount. And outages are costly: According to Gartner, companies lose an average of $5,600.00 per minute, or over $300,000.00 per hour when their sites are unavailable—and that was in 2014. Speed matters: BBC found that for each second of increased page load time, 10% of users leave the site.
Track User Experience with First Paint and First Contentful Paint
In early versions of the web (think Web 1.0), webpages were built mostly with HTML and image files. Modern websites, however, are much more dynamic, particularly when loading content. That means traditional timing metrics, while still critical, don’t provide a full picture of the overall user experience.
Product Update: New Relic Synthetics Runtime Environment
The New Relic Synthetics team has been hard at work during the last few months. We’re now excited to release the results of that work: an update to the New Relic Synthetics runtime environment (0.6.x), so all monitors now include the Chrome version 72 runtime, V8 engine v6.6, Node 10.15 LTS, and Selenium Webdriver 3.6.0. With this update, we’re helping Synthetics customers modernize their testing environments, as well as increasing their speed, performance, and efficiency.

New Capabilities for New Relic Synthetics
Controlling when your synthetic monitors run is essential to managing your team’s service level agreements (SLAs) and, more broadly, to applying consistent and reliable proactive monitoring. During maintenance and scheduled site downtime windows, for example, you don’t want your synthetic monitors to fail and subsequently skew your uptime results. You need precise control over your synthetic monitors to dictate when you’d like them to run.
Synthetics Workflows with Containerized Private Minions
A key benefit in New Relic Synthetics is the ability to test your applications globally from any location, including from behind your firewall, using private minions. Until now, our private minions—which receive and manage jobs from Synthetics for each test location you’ve established—have run on virtual machine appliances in VMware’s VSphere or Oracle’s VirtualBox, which limited user configurability, control, speed, and cloud readiness.

Secure Credentials comes to New Relic Synthetics
If you work with synthetic scripts, you know they often contain sensitive data that must be kept secure and in compliance with your company’s security policies. When you need to change this sensitive data across hundreds of scripts—say, for a periodic company-mandated password update—you’re looking at a lot of potential toil.
Monitoring JavaScript Errors with New Relic Browser
If you run a website or web application, you know they constantly evolve. Development teams introduce new components, features, and services at a blistering rate in order to modernize their apps, bring new ideas to market, or simply improve based on customer feedback. While change is essential, it can lead you to introduce new bugs and errors into your site, especially when you move fast.
