Harvey: Canary in the collapsing Illinois coal mine
Your job, your pension, or your home. This is the choice left to several families in Harvey, Illinois. They can’t have all three and some don’t even have the choice of one. The financial disaster in Harvey is a wake-up call to all Illinoisans that have been forced to hand over their hard-earned incomes to a political ruling class that is willing to leverage their homes and waste tax dollars to fulfill their own political agenda instead of serving the people they are supposed to be representing.
Illinois is becoming a home equity desert
The highest property taxes in the nation are stripping families of both their home's value and their ability to get a return on the largest investment most will make in their lifetime. Illinois’ property tax system is inequitable, inefficient, and indecipherable. In nearly every other state and municipality, the property tax system is simple: A tax assessor produces a value for your home (X), which is then multiplied by a standard rate (Y), to give you your annual tax bill.

Don’t let them get away with it
The Democrat-controlled General Assembly left Springfield last week without passing a budget for the third consecutive year. Rather than pass real reforms that protect homeowners and stabilize government services, Democrats attempted to hike taxes. When that approach failed, they did nothing, ignoring the need to pass a budget and instead blaming Governor Rauner.

Stand Strong for Illinois
“Republicans will not be supporting any new revenue this session,” stated Illinois House Minority Leader Jim Durkin last week during a forum at Chicago’s City Club. We agree with Leader Durkin. A tax increase is wrong for Illinois. Illinois does not have a revenue problem. From 2006-2014, Illinois saw a 48% increase in tax revenue. Unfortunately, the state has very little to show for it.
