Maroons make short work of Gremlins
MENOMINEE — Walton Blesch Stadium doesn’t quite sit at 20,000 feet, but Houghton was no less eager to give Menominee a nightmare. Instead, the Gremlins turned out to be just a harmless apparition, as the Maroons banished Houghton to the twilight zone with a 45-16 thumping in West-PAC Copper Conference action on Friday. In a performance Rod Serling himself would have applauded, Jackson Myszak racked up four touchdowns in three different fashions while Menominee’s defense bent but did not break.
Marinette girls' bad luck continues against Irish
MARINETTE — Tough times continued for the Marinette High School girls volleyball team on Thursday as the Marines fell to Freedom 3-0 in North Eastern Conference play. Freedom won all three sets in rather decisive fashion. The Irish opened Thursday’s match with a 25-10 decision in game one and took control of the proceedings with a 25-14 victory in set two, setting the stage for a clinching 25-12 score in the third and final set.
Maroons return to win column after four-set frying of Eagles
MENOMINEE — One team’s elation was another team’s frustration as the Menominee High School girls volleyball team prevailed over Stephenson 3-1 on Tuesday. For Menominee, Tuesday marked a return to the win column for the Maroons after a four-game skid that began nearly three weeks earlier. “We adjusted our defense a little bit and they cleaned up their serve/receive. Our passing was much better tonight,” Menominee coach Alan Milostan said.
Maroons knock Copper Kings off undefeated throne
MENOMINEE — Two undefeated teams left each other black and blue on a dreary fall night at Walton Blesch Stadium as Menominee hosted Calumet for a West-PAC Copper Conference showdown on Friday. Hard hits were commonplace as Calumet did an admirable job of slowing down Menominee’s juggernaut of an offense, but ultimately the connection between Dylan Beal and Brody Daigneau proved to be the difference as the Maroons knocked off the Copper Kings 22-8.
Marinette girls make short work of Red Devils
MARINETTE — Rain may have been falling outside but everything was sunshine and roses for the Marinette High School girls tennis team inside the Marinette REC Center on Monday. In a testament to Marinette’s overwhelming superiority, Green Bay East failed to win even a single set.

Marinette spikes Menominee in M&M melee
MENOMINEE — Last year’s M&M free-for-all between the Marinette and Menominee High School girls volleyball teams came down to the wire after the Marines needed every bit of five sets to vanquish “That Team From Across the River” on their home court. Marinette had little interest in an encore performance this season and made their visit to the 906 a short one as the Marines spiked the Maroons 3-0 in Tuesday’s rematch in Menominee.
No sweat: Menominee outlasts Marquette in five-set thriller
MENOMINEE — Drenched in sweat and pushed to the brink of exhaustion, the Menominee High School girls volleyball team dug deep and proved their mettle with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Marquette in Tuesday's Great Northern Conference showdown. Hot, humid temperatures outside made the MHS gym feel more like a jungle, leaving both Menominee and Marquette battling not only each other, but the limits of their own endurance.
MENOMINEE — At this point, the jaws of life may be needed to pry the M&M Log out of the Menominee High School trophy case. Jackson Myszak’s coming out party coupled with a stout defensive effort proved too much for Marinette to handle in the 120th edition of the M&M Game and the result was a 60-6 blowout in favor of the Maroons on Friday. Menominee (1-0) has now won eight straight over Marinette and 24 of the last 27 M&M Games.

Simon says: Stephenson legend reflects on road to U.P. Sports Hall of Fame
STEPHENSON — “For Want of a Nail” is a proverb dating back to 1640 that details, throughout many different iterations, how seemingly small or unimportant events or omissions can have dire and unforeseen consequences. While the circumstances around the life of Mark Simon may not be described as dire, the career of one of the greatest basketball players to ever hail from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula may have never happened not for the want of a nail, but rather the call of nature.

Say cheese: Antigo alum McFarlane named CSC Photographer of the Year
LAS VEGAS — Photography is not as simple as it may appear on the surface. Far more goes into taking a picture than simply pointing a camera and clicking the shutter button. A skilled photographer blends subject, lighting and composition to create an image that not only captures the moment in front of the lens, but also invokes emotion from those who view it. Over the past calendar year, no photographer accomplished that task better than Jared McFarlane, and he has the hardware to prove it.

'I am part of the Oneida Nation': Smith celebrates Native American ancestry while showcasing his skills
