Matthew Carluccio’s Biography

Matthew Carluccio, an award-winning Executive Producer with NBC, has dedicated nearly thirty years to broadcast news and editorial leadership. He has been an integral part of flagship programs such as Dateline NBC, TODAY, Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, and NBC News Specials. With a reputation for professionalism, clear editorial judgment, and the ability to deliver under pressure, he has helped guide news coverage that is both trusted and respected by audiences worldwide.

Matthew is recognized for his ability to manage demanding productions and make informed, time-sensitive decisions. Over the course of his career, he and his teams have received multiple Emmy Awards and Edward R. Murrow Awards. These honors recognize his work in writing, breaking news, and overall excellence, reflecting his dedication to maintaining high standards in every project he leads.

Carluccio grew up in Toms River, NJ, where a natural curiosity and the influence of his parents, who worked in law and psychology, shaped his interest in journalism. After boarding school in Pennsylvania, he went on to Clark University in Massachusetts, where he studied Political Science and Psychology. These fields gave him a deeper understanding of human behavior and institutional dynamics, tools that would later influence his storytelling and approach to journalism. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts and moved to New York City to begin his professional journey.

His career started at King World TV, where he served as an Assistant to the Executive Producer. This role gave him a firsthand view of the challenges of daily television production and provided valuable early experience. Matthew later joined NBC as an Associate Producer for Dateline NBC, where he contributed to investigative reports, long-form programming, and general assignments. During this time, he strengthened his reporting, editing, and writing skills, while also taking on both domestic and international fieldwork, including coverage in the Middle East and major U.S. trials.

In 2005, Carluccio joined the TODAY brand, producing broadcasts from diverse locations, including Cuba, Belize, the Vatican, and Antarctica, where he made the first live network news report from the South Pole. He also produced coverage for the Olympic Games, beginning with Torino in 2006 and continuing through Beijing in 2022. As his leadership responsibilities expanded, he became Supervising Producer in 2008, Senior Producer in 2011, and Executive Producer of the weekend editions of TODAY in 2014. In 2016, Matthew helped create Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, which became a successful and lasting extension of the TODAY portfolio. Since 2020, he has overseen NBC News Specials, leading coverage of elections, inaugurations, state ceremonies, and major international events.

Outside of work, he has been married for 18 years and is the father of three boys. He lives with his family and two dogs in Philadelphia, where he enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, coaching sports, skiing, surfing, and cooking Italian meals while cheering for the NY Yankees. Matthew Carluccio continues to bring experience, leadership, and dedication to his role, making a lasting impact on broadcast journalism.
