The Takeover of Malheur Kicked Off a Decade of Lawlessness
On the night of February 10, 2016, Ohioan David Fry—thin with glasses and a long, black ponytail—sat in a tent with three other people in rural southeastern Oregon. They were surrounded by FBI agents. “It’s time to come out,” one agent said dryly through a speaker. “Go home!” Fry yelled back. “You’re making this a situation that’s dangerous by being here! Any one of us could go nuts!” This affair was being live streamed, and the people in the tent screamed at the agents.
Swarts discusses experience in presentation
By AJ Powers, Staff Writer Dr. Gariel Swarts, adolescence education director and assistant professor of education at the university, gave a talk on his dissertation from 2017 last Tuesday. In 1884, Mark Twain wrote, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” a classic in the American literary canon revolving around Huckleberry “Huck” Finn. Huck befriends a former slave, Jim, and the two go on adventures through the nineteenth century southern antebellum. Enemy Inside the Wire: The Untold Story of the Battle of Bastion
One year ago this month, under cover of night, fifteen Taliban, dressed as American soldiers, snuck onto one of the largest air bases in Afghanistan. What followed was a bloody confrontation highlighting a startling security lapse, with hundreds of millions in matériel lost in a matter of hours—the worst day for American airpower since the Tet Offensive. Yet the attack faded from view before anyone could figure out what went wrong.
Mr. Bellow’s Planet
Nor could a biographer add nuance to Bellow’s maniacally elaborated portrait of his inner life. The thoughts and feelings of Bellow’s fictional counterparts don’t track his exactly, but they represent acts of self-mimesis. Bellow’s great subject is his own subjectivity. He announced as much on the first page of his first novel, Dangling Man (1944).
