Matthew Yip, also known as Prof. Mathewmatician, is a Hong Kong based mathematics educator, author, and Mathematics Olympiad trainer. He is the founder of Top Mathematics Education Centre and the developer of Mathewmatician's Dictionary, an automated mathematics learning system that integrates textbooks, exercises, and lectures into a single step by step curriculum.
Matthew Yip serves as President of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at the International (Macau) Institute of Academic Research, Mathematics and Statistics Program Director at the Chartered Institute of Training and Development, and Mathematics Curriculum Manager at Wahhar College. He founded the Global Mathematics and Mathematics Olympiad Graded Assessment Test with Competition, an open age assessment system designed to address fairness gaps in school math evaluation and Olympiad competition access.
With more than two decades of teaching experience spanning kindergarten through doctoral level, Matthew Yip has taught more than 120 courses across over 70 schools and served as a Senior Trainer for the China Mathematics Olympiad and the World International Mathematics Olympiad Committee. He has also coached the Hong Kong representative team at the International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational and is credited with developing a method for calculating the nth root using an abacus through his work with the World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic.
Matthew Yip is the author of fourteen books on mathematics and mathematics education, including Mathewmatician's Pedagogies Collection, Mathematics Olympiad Masterpiece Series – High School Level, Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Learning and Teaching Masterpiece, and Every Child a Mathematician. His books are read in more than sixty countries. He is also a columnist on mathematics education for newspapers, magazines, and research institutes.
He has received more than fifteen international awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award and the World Leaders Award at the UK Parliament, Mathematician of the Year 2024 from the Impact Leadership Global Awards, Leading Educationist of the Year from the Global Business Leadership Forum, and the Influential Leadership Award in Education at the HEaL Conferences. The International Association of Top Professionals named him Top Mathematics Educator, with the announcement displayed on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square, New York City. He has been featured on the covers of Passion Vista, CIO Times, CIO Today, Magnate View, and CEO Time Magazine, and has been interviewed by more than 200 media outlets, including The Times and Fox News.
Matthew Yip holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from Charisma University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from American International Theism University. He earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics for Educators from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and completed coursework at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a registered teacher with the Hong Kong Education Bureau.
He is available for media interviews and commentary on mathematics education reform, self paced and mastery based learning, the Mathematics Olympiad industry, the role of artificial intelligence in classrooms, and how parents and teachers can rebuild a student's math foundation at any age.
