Matthew Yip, also known as Prof. Mathewmatician, is a mathematics educator, author, and Olympiad trainer based in Hong Kong, recognized for developing the Mathewmatician's Dictionary, an automated mathematics learning system that integrates textbooks, exercises, and lectures into a single step by step curriculum.
Matthew Yip began teaching during his university years, working in private tutoring and mathematics tutoring classes to support his studies. He later taught mathematics across every academic level, from kindergarten and primary school through master's degree courses, eventually instructing in more than seventy schools and delivering over one hundred twenty courses ranging from diploma to doctorate level.
Matthew Yip has authored fourteen books, including Primary Mathematics Book, Mathewmatician's Pedagogies Collection, Mathewmatician's Challenging Problems, Mathematics Olympiad Masterpiece Series for High School Level, Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Learning and Teaching Masterpiece, and Usable College Statistics, with readers in more than 60 countries. He has served as a Senior Trainer for the China Mathematics Olympiad and the World International Mathematics Olympiad Committee, prepared and judged questions for the National Mathematical Olympiad for University Students, and acted as head coach of the Hong Kong representative team at the International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational. He has been interviewed by more than two hundred media outlets, including Times and Fox News, and has received over fifteen international honors, among them the Outstanding Train the Trainers Award and the Outstanding Leadership Award.
Matthew Yip is President of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at the International (Macau) Institute of Academic Research, Mathematics and Statistics Program Director at the Chartered Institute of Training and Development, and Mathematics Curriculum Manager at Wahhar College. He founded and leads the Global Mathematics and Mathematics Olympiad Graded Assessment Test with Competition, which offers grading open to all ages and a free preparatory course. He has also served as a Guest Master's Degree Lecturer at Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
Matthew Yip holds a double Ph.D. and master's degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a trainer with the World Association of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic, he developed a method for calculating the nth root by abacus.
