IEA: Increasingly Tight Market Demonstrates Need for Domestic Production
The International Energy Agency’s monthly Oil Market Report for January forecasts a dynamic and mutating crude market in 2023: while inventories are expected to grow in the first quarter, various international dynamics may cause the market to be extremely tight by the end of the year. Per IEA, in the first three months of 2023, oil supply is predicted to exceed consumption by approximately one million barrels a day.
LATEST DALLAS FED ENERGY SURVEY INDICATES STRONG 2023 INVESTMENT PLANS DESPITE INCREASING UNCERTAINTY AND SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES
In the most recent Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas survey of energy executives, industry leaders expressed rising uncertainty about the future of oil and natural gas, along with increased input costs, supply chain bottlenecks, and labor shortages. However, despite their concerns, the majority of firms plan to increase capital spending in 2023. For the eighth consecutive quarter, firms reported that they are facing rising costs.
New EIA Report Shows Emissions Falling in the Power Generation Sector Thanks to Natural Gas
A new Energy Information Administration analysis provides great news for the United States’ climate goals: the power generation sector continues to see emissions drop, and the largest decreases can be attributed to the switch to natural gas.
New England is Back At it Again: Energy Constraints Could Result in Forced Consumption Curtailments This Winter
Once again, New England is facing energy supply issues that could threaten the safety of its residents during extreme bouts of cold this winter, with the region’s power grid operator, ISO New England, warning that consumers may be forced to curtail electricity consumption during extreme cold periods.
California Energy Commission Hearing Offers No Aid to Newsom Before State Legislature Investigates Alleged Price Gouging
California lawmakers kicked off a special legislative session today at the behest of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to evaluate “a price-gouging penalty on oil companies that choose to rake in excessive profits at the expense of Californians,” despite allegations of price gouging being thoroughly debunked during a California Energy Commission (CEC) just last week.
EU Calls to Phase Down All Fossil Fuels Are Impractical and Ignore Reality
The European Union climate policy chief Frans Timmermans recently expressed support for phasing down all fossil fuels, a move that seemingly runs counter to the efforts this year by many EU countries to increase access to diverse sources of natural gas and oil as sanctions were enacted against Russia. Timmermans said: His announcement comes following India’s call to build off last year’s COP26 agreement to phase down coal and expand the commitment to encompass all fossil fuels.
IEA: The United States is Poised to Be the Largest Exporter of Natural Gas in the World
IEA: The United States is Poised to Be the Largest Exporter of Natural Gas in the World According to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2022, the United States is poised to soon become the largest exporter of natural gas in the world. This is excellent news not only for the U.S. economy, but for global security and emission reduction goals worldwide.
Winter Is Coming: New England’s Longtime Natural Gas Supply Issues Could Be Even Worse This Year
Energy In Depth has written about the natural gas supply constraints New England faces ad nauseum over the last decade – from the policies that have prevented new pipeline capacity to the region turning to Russia during the 2018 polar vortex – but as the Wall Street Journal recently reported, this year could be the worst yet for New England’s residents.
Most Recent Dallas Fed Survey Reveals Increased Production Despite Significant Challenges, Uncertainty
Similar to the previous quarter, findings from the latest Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas survey of energy executives indicate companies are experiencing rising input costs, supply chain constraints, and yet, firms are still increasing oil and natural gas production in Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Louisiana. However, concerns about the future of oil and natural gas and unpredictable macroeconomic conditions have caused the rate of production growth to decline relative to last quarter.
