Mazyar Yazdani’s Biography

Dr. Yazdani began his research career by studying the mechanisms of action of hazardous substances, with emphasis on oxidative stress induction and in vitro (cell culture) method development. He later linked the role of oxidative stress to pathophysiology of dry eye disease and treatment of corneal epithelial (limbal) stem cell deficiency. Currently, as a core member of the Metabolomics & Metabolic Molecular Biology group, he is investigating the role of metabolic changes in health and disease (especially in ophthalmology & neurology). The main goal is to better understand the mechanisms underlying disease development using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and lipidomics. In addition to these, he always had a keen interest in biological role and effects of oxygen. His scholarly work, in general, spans both empirical and theoretical research.
