Marcus Baram’s Biography

A longtime reporter and editor, Baram has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Village Voice, New York magazine, and the New York Daily News.

He edits and writes stories on the economy, climate change, and income inequality for Capital & Main.

Currently, he's also a contributing editor at Crain Currency, where he writes feature stories and conducts interviews with investors and entrepreneurs.

He recently completed an in-depth reporting project on wage theft for Documented NY as part of ProPublica's Local Reporting Network.

Previously, he was a senior editor at Fast Company magazine, where he edited several award-winning feature stories, and worked as an editor at HuffPost and The New York Observer. His critically-acclaimed 2014 biography of the late Gil Scott-Heron, "Pieces of a Man," was named a notable book by The New Yorker.
