By Dawn Chmielewski LOS ANGELES, July 19 (Reuters) – Director Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey” grossed $264.1 million in global ticket sales, including $124.5 million in the U.S. and Canada, Universal Pictures said on Sunday. The film, based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer, stars Matt Damon as the Greek hero Odysseus, and follows his perilous journey home after fighting the Trojan War.
WTVP launches new fundraising campaign to build on momentum of previous campaign
PEORIA, Ill. – One year after federal funding was cut for public media radio and television stations across the country, Peoria’s WTVP is asking for the community’s help to keep it running. In response last year, WTVP launched the We Believe campaign. The campaign was able to raise $1 million to fill any gaps left by federal funding losses. The station says it also added 2,500 new donors, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in one-time additional gifts.
Riverview Plaza owner loses latest round in legal battle with Peoria
PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The owner of Riverview Plaza, one of Downtown Peoria’s tallest building wanted a restraining order against the city, but that was denied during a hearing on Friday. The attorneys representing Dr. Paul Kim of MJ Illinois LLC, the building’s owner, argued the city is not honoring an agreement made between Kim and city leaders. However, the judge questioned why so much time has passed without repairs to the building.
Fire crews battle blaze at vacant South Peoria home
PEORIA, Ill. – The cause of a fire to a vacant South Peoria house is under investigation. Peoria Fire says crews responded to the home in the area of Adams and Faraday just after 4:00 A.M. Saturday. Fire crews arrived to see flames from the first and second floors of the building, and quickly put it out on both floors. No one was found inside the building after a search. An arson investigator was called to the scene. A firefighter suffered minor injuries after a step collapse while battling the fire.
Bartonville school district to delay start of new school year
BARTONVILLE, Ill. – A Bartonville school district is getting a later than planned start to the school year. In an announcement on Friday, the district announced that the first day for students will now take place on August 20th, one week later than originally scheduled. The district only has one building, Oak Grove School. The district says the delay is due to a power shutdown, where crews will complete a power conversion to a new electrical transformer.

PEKIN, Ill. – Tazewell’s County Clerk says the state of Illinois is ahead of the game on election security. County Clerk John Ackerman spoke on WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” Friday morning after Trump’s Thursday night speech regarding election security. During his speech, Trump declassified documents that would appear China committed data theft and attempted to influence the results of the 2020 election through a campaign.
Peoria Chiefs teaming up with Peoria County Sheriff’s Department to give out golden baseballs
PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Children across central Illinois have a golden opportunity to see a baseball game this summer. The Golden Baseball Initiative is returning this year after taking a hiatus last summer. It’s a collaboration between the Peoria Chiefs and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department. The program gives golden baseballs to officers and deputies across central Illinois to give out to kids who are doing good deeds or behavior.
Woman arrested after allegedly fleeing Bartonville crash scene in police squad car
BARTONVILLE, Ill. – A Peoria woman is facing numerous charges after allegedly crashing a truck and taking a Bartonville Police squad car. Bartonville Police says officers responded to a truck crashing in the area of Madison and Monroe at around 5:45 P.M. on Thursday. A female, later identified as 30-year-old Brittany Potter, was detained and placed in a squad car. Potter reportedly told police that an individual was under the truck that had crashed.
Marvel Comics to move publishing operations to California, report says
July 17 (Reuters) – Marvel Comics will relocate its publishing division from New York City to Burbank, California, ending a nearly 90-year presence in the city where the comic book publisher was founded, The Hollywood Reporter said. Employees were informed at a town hall meeting at Marvel’s Midtown Manhattan office that the publishing unit would move to Burbank, home to Marvel Studios and parent Walt Disney’s entertainment operations, the media outlet reported on Thursday.
Third teenager be tried as adult in Peoria carjacking case from December
PEORIA, Ill. – A third teenager has now been charged as an adult in a carjacking case in North Peoria this past December. The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 16-year-old Equon Logan has been charged with Attempt Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Attempt Vehicular Hijacking, and Vehicular Hijacking. Logan was ordered held in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center until trial at a hearing on Thursday.
