Worthington has a new addition to their retail scene—The Whispering Page has officially opened its doors. One of the most influential figures in the modern women’s movement got her start in Ohio. Gloria Steinem, the pioneering journalist, author and activist who became one of the country’s most recognizable advocates for women’s equality, died Wednesday at her home in New York City. She was 92. Her foundation said Steinem died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. An official cause of death has not been released, though the Associated Press reported she had been in declining health.

A Columbus-based circus artist officially became a Guinness World Record holder this summer. On June 7, Cyara Hotopp, in her home gym at Aerotique Columbus, attempted to beat the world record of the most spins while suspended by her hair. On July 29, the video was reviewed, the numbers were confirmed, and Hotopp’s name is officially in the book.

Broadway Court Apartments to close by September 15, after years of crime, squatting, drug activity, and deteriorating building conditions. On September 2, City Attorney Zach Klein announced that the Property Action Team has secured a court order regarding the closure of the property located at 2009-2033 W. Broad Street. According to a press release, the court order followed the Columbus Police’s finding that 16 people were occupying two supposedly vacant units in the apartment complex.

A Central Ohio boutique and florist will be closing the doors of its Grove City storefront for good. In a social media post made on Aug. 18, Butterfly Boutique announced that it will close for good on Oct. 1. “This little shop has been such a special chapter of my life, but I always knew in my heart that it would be temporary,” the post reads.

As part of Powell City Council’s plans to revitalize its Downtown area, the council voted on several items on September 1, including the demolition of one classic cigar lounge. The Powell Development Corporation (PDC) board met on August 25 to approve awarding a $25,000 Façade Grant to property owner Vincent J. Margello. According to the resolution memo, the agreement authorizes the City to pay 50% of this construction work, not to exceed $88,600.00.
