One of the most influential figures in the modern women’s movement got her start in Ohio. Gloria Steinem, the pioneering journalist, author and activist who became one of the country’s most recognizable advocates for women’s equality, died Wednesday at her home in New York City. She was 92. Her foundation said Steinem died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. An official cause of death has not been released, though the Associated Press reported she had been in declining health.

An Ohio church is giving Dolly Parton fans a place to come together and remember the country music icon and philanthropist. St. John’s United Church of Christ in Newark will hold a special service Sunday, Aug. 30, honoring Parton, who died Aug. 25 at age 80. BROUGHT TO YOU BY The church will offer two opportunities to attend: an 8 a.m. outdoor drive-in service and a 10:30 a.m. service inside the sanctuary. Both are part of St. John’s regular Sunday worship schedule.

A 20-year-old man was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in the Short North, just after bars closed Saturday night. Columbus Police said the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Aug. 23 along the 1000 block of North High Street in the heart of the Short North Arts District. Crime scene tape was spotted in the area of Goody Boy Diner, Skully’s Music Diner and ICON Jazz Lounge. Columbus Police officers who were already nearby heard the gunfire and rushed to the scene.
