‘Outrageous’: Taxpayers Federation slams Canada Post bonuses
REGINA – The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is sounding the alarms over some eyebrow-raising bonuses reported by Canada Post. “Outrageous” was the word used by Franco Terrazzano, Canadian Taxpayers Federation Federal Director, to describe $30.8 million in executive and management bonuses at Canada Post in 2025. What has Terrazzano particularly steamed is that these bonuses were paid during a year when Canada Post was in the process of being bailed out.

NDP, gov’t present contrasting opinions on overdose crisis
SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan NDP continued to call on the provincial government to come up with an emergency plan to address the growing overdose cases in the city, which could reflect a public health emergency. Health and Addictions Shadow Minister Leroy Laliberte said Saskatoon's downtown continues to be overwhelmed by addictions and overdose incidents, citing reports that Saskatoon firefighters respond to more than 600 overdose calls every month.
Twenty-seven tornadoes confirmed in Saskatchewan this year
SASKATCHEWAN — Saskatchewan is getting close to setting a new one-year record for tornado activity, with a few weeks remaining for the 2026 twister season. Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said 27 tornadoes have been confirmed in Saskatchewan so far this year, and five more reported from July 10 remain under investigation.
SE Sask man pleads guilty, serves sentence, remains in custody
ESTEVAN — Most of the court matters for Mason Wayne Strutt have been resolved, but he remains in custody. The 25-year-old man from southeast Saskatchewan pleaded guilty to one count each of resisting arrest and uttering threats, and two counts of violating the terms of a release order, during a CCTV appearance July 13 in Estevan Provincial Court. Other Estevan-area charges for mischief and violating release conditions were stayed.
Man facing charges after break in to home in Macklin
MACKLIN – Unity RCMP have arrested a man after a break in to a residence in Macklin. On July 10 at approximately 1 a.m., Unity RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a residence in Macklin. The investigation determined a man entered a residence. When confronted by an adult female occupant, an altercation occurred between the occupant and the male, who then ran. The woman did not report any significant physical injuries to police. Officers began searching for the suspect.
Regina Humane Society facing cat capacity crunch despite strong adoption numbers
REGINA — The Regina Humane Society (RHS) is dealing with urgent capacity issues for cats. Despite a recent uptick in adoptions, the RHS’s cat population continues to grow each day. “We had 156 cats and kittens in our care. That was on June 30. As of the end of the day yesterday, we had 189. So that's despite seeing 67 cats and kittens adopted during that time,” said Bill Thorn, RHS director of marketing and public relations.

Battlefords RCMP are seeking assistance on the possible identities of the subjects provided in the surveillance footages. Regina Pats sign import defenceman Tomas Cermak
The Regina Pats have signed Tomas Cermak, the defenceman they selected in the third round of the 2026 CHL import draft. The contract was announced by the team Monday. Cermak was selected 85th by the Pats in the import draft last month after recording five goals and 15 points in 48 games this past season for BK Mladá Boleslav U20 in the Czech U20 league. The 18-year-old is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-shot blueliner from PlzeĆ, Czechia.
