Menopause is something millions of women experience, but many still feel like they have to whisper about it. A new Detroit event aims to change that by bringing the conversation out into the open, one step at a time. The Hot Flash Goddess Movement™ will host its inaugural Menopause Awareness Walk on September 5, 2026, at A.B. Ford Park. The free, 1-mile community event is designed to raise awareness, create connections, and celebrate women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause.

Mark your calendars for July 17-19 for the Thunder Over Michigan air show at Willow Run Airport. This air show corresponds with America's 250th anniversary theme, with the Royal Air Force Red Arrows, the British aerobatic team, as a highlight. Downtown Detroit leads every U.S. city in a new way to measure how often residents visit their central business districts and how long they stay. The 2026 City Pulse study from the Gensler Research Institute found that 33% of residents go there just because they want to, which doubles the national average of 16%. The study asked residents across 75 cities in 30 countries. Data came from over 140,000 people since 2020.

Henry Ford Health and Medstar rolled out a pediatric ambulance Monday at Henry Ford St. John's Children's Hospital in Detroit. The rig carries medical gear built for babies and kids. Trained providers who specialize in infant, child, and teen care staff the vehicle during transfers. Families across Southeast Michigan will benefit. Leaders say the project took over a year to complete.

The Detroit events this weekend include art, community, and anniversary festivities. The Pancakes & Booze Art Show brings an underground celebration of emerging artists downtown, while the Detroit Summer Market & Festival offers three days of shopping and live entertainment at Campus Martius Park. Aviation fans can head to Belleville for the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show, marking the nation's 250th birthday with military and civilian aircraft.

Be part of the second annual Furniture Flip Challenge, headed by the Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit. Michigan residents aged 18 and older can visit the Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit's Madison Heights warehouse and pay $30 for up to three pieces of furniture. Participants then take the pieces home and, using their own materials and labor, transform them into creative, useful furniture. The completed, restored items are then returned to the Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit by August 28.

Detroit Sandwich Party hits Eastern Market on Sunday, Sept. 6 for its third year. Carlos Parisi, Will McDowell, and Bekah Galang put together this free festival. The organizers need vendors, volunteers, and sponsors for 2026. Sign-ups happen through their online portal. Vendors will sell smaller sandwiches at the festival, which means attendees can sample several different options as they wander around. Getting in costs nothing. Attendees pay only when they buy sandwiches from individual vendors.

Jay Farner made the biggest single investment in Detroit City FC's history. Farner founded Ronin Capital Partners and once led Rocket Companies as CEO. He put money into the team through Ronin Sports & Entertainment Group. The amount wasn't shared. Funds will go toward building the team's $150 million stadium and backing a $200 million mixed-use project in southwest Detroit. Farner joined the DCFC Holdings board. This investment will help construct AlumniFi Field, a 15,000-seat soccer stadium.

The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation will roll out air-conditioned buses at six spots across metro Detroit. Starting today, the service runs through Friday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Buses appear when temperatures hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The cooling buses offer free spaces. Anyone who needs to duck out of the heat can step inside. A heat dome over the western United States is pushing scorching temperatures into Michigan this week.
