We call on every political party represented in Parliament to publicly commit, before the election, to progressing affirmative consent law reform. This means committing to: Supporting the existing draft legislation as the starting point for reform. Working together to have it placed on the Order Paper before Parliament rises, so it can be considered without unnecessary delay.
Stop the Discriminatory Bill Removing Disabled People’s Rights – Ensure Fair Due Process
Disabled people and their carers already face huge barriers just to live, work and care. This bill sets a dangerous precedent and strips away legal rights that other New Zealanders still have. It cancels existing court cases, shuts down claims that were filed properly and on time, and stops disabled people and their families from asking the courts to decide if they have been underpaid for years of essential care work.
Bring back Tiriti-based, inclusive Relationships & Sexuality Education in schools
We all want all of Aotearoa’s young people, whānau and communities to be able to have loving and respectful connections, and to live with confidence, free from bullying, stalking, abuse and all forms of violence. Relationships & Sexuality Education (RSE) in schools is an important support for this vision, as it is Aotearoa’s key cornerstone of prevention of bullying, abuse and violence, including family violence, and sexual violence.
Increase and Target Investment in Social and Affordable Housing for Older People
Over the last couple of years, the Christchurch Methodist Mission has become increasingly aware of the number of older people in housing distress. We are seeing this in the growing waiting list for our affordable and social housing at Wesley Village, and in the number of older people requiring emergency housing in both Christchurch and Blenheim. Our homelessness outreach team are also observing an increasing number of older people sleeping rough.
Golden Triangle by Train: Te Huia to Tauranga
We request that the Government and key transport decision-makers actively support the ongoing future and growth of Te Huia (Auckland and Waikato passenger train) and passenger rail in the Golden Triangle. This includes providing certainty for Te Huia beyond its trial period, supporting its long-term development so it becomes more frequent and accessible to more people.
Oppose the Amendments to the Marine and Coastal Area Act
To: The House of Representatives of Aotearoa New Zealand The Undersigned Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti demand that: The government immediately halt all progress on the amendments to the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act. The government uphold its constitutional duty to protect Māori customary interests in the marine and coastal environment.
Save NCEA - Strengthen, Don’t Replace it!
👉 We urge the Government to stop the replacement process and instead engage in authentic, sector-wide consultation to improve and future-proof NCEA. 👉 We urge the Government to stop the narrowing of the New Zealand Curriculum and the removal of a wide range of NCEA subjects so as to ensure that learners’ needs and interests are met. There has been little genuine consultation with schools, whānau, or iwi about what is a major change to what and how we assess.
Bring Back long-Distance Passenger Rail to Taranaki
Restoring this vital rail link would benefit over 750,000 people by providing an affordable and accessible alternative to air travel and long-distance coaches, which older and disabled passengers often find inaccessible. It would reduce reliance on private vehicles, improving road safety. Reintroducing this service would boost regional economies, uplift tourism in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful and under-served regions, and build a more connected and equitable transport network for all.
PM Luxon: Uphold Codes of Conduct - Call David Seymour into line
The Right Honourable Christopher Luxon Prime Minister of New Zealand we call on you to enforce standards of conduct across your Government, including investigating and calling into line members of your cabinet who breach the Cabinet Manual. We are particularly concerned about the campaign of online harassment and intimidation against university scholars that is being orchestrated by Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour.
Restore The Southerner Train
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to restore The Southerner Train, from Invercargill, via Dunedin to Christchurch, as a regular public transport service, supporting South Island towns and cities along the route. A restored Southerner train route offers affordable transport for 750,000 SI residents, bridging gaps where air is too costly for students/low-income, coaches inaccessible for disabled/elderly, and car travel unsafe/expensive.
