Categories: June 2, 2026 This week, Carleton forums on facebook, reddit and even Yik Yak have been overrun by a chain of questions and concerns from a student Shopine Gadikt ’27 and her parents concerning the flexibility of her departure from campus. On Sunday night, Gadikt mindlessly placed an order on the website of one of her favorite stores, hardly stopping to consider the fact that the shop app automatically filled in Carleton as her address.

The Arb is an important part of the Carleton experience, and it means different things to different people. Morning runners, classes, late-night walkers, weekend visitors and Arb caretakers traverse its paths. Photos of it appear on the dining hall screens. Its wildlife occasionally wander out across campus.

Categories: June 2, 2026 Have you ever wondered why Spring Creek is called Spring Creek? Flowing northwest through campus, Spring Creek has been a staple of campus for its entire existence. If you’ve ever dipped a toe in, you may have noticed that it can be fairly cold, even in the height of summer.

This week, College President Alison Byerly, often referred to by students as “Ally B,” was replaced by a nearly identical “Ally C.” Community members became suspicious on Friday, May 8, when the president was spotted with her bangs askew.

It’s that time of the year again: this weekend, Carleton’s six ultimate teams hosted Alumni Weekend, and what felt like millions of frisbee alums descended in a massive horde on Duerr fields clad in their cultish tattoos, sandals, and unceasing CUT merch. As always, alums arrived unafraid to wreak havoc on campus. Carleton’s disc golf course always draws much attention from the alumni, and this year was no different.

In the last couple of weeks, southeastern Minnesota has been subject to fluctuations between warm humid spells and brief sudden downpours. These rains have had a high impact on those students who check the forecast once in the morning and carelessly forget to examine the emojis associated with the later times, planning their outfits simply for the hours right in front of them.

Categories: June 2, 2026 It’s mating season! In the spring, male frogs and toads begin to search for mates. They call repeatedly, often throughout the day, though particularly at dusk, attempting to attract females. The Arboretum is home to multiple frog and toad species. In the early spring, you might hear Western Chorus Frogs (Pseudacris triseriata), Wood Frogs (Rana sylvatica), and Northern Leopard Frogs (Rana pipiens).

This week, security announced new parking restrictions, developed in collaboration with the town of Northfield and a concerned citizen, or “townie,” by the name of Ebeneezer Scrooge.

At the beginning of Week Eight, Carleton’s Sproncert committee announced this year’s headliner: Between Friends. Students had mixed reactions to the announcement, with some cheering on the selection and others feeling a bit perplexed. “I asked a buddy of mine who the headliner was because I’m trying to spend less time on Instagram. He said, ‘Oh, it’s just between friends.’ And I thought, am I not your friend? Can’t it be just between us too?” said Kahn Fuzed ’28.

Room draw can be a stressful time for many students on campus. The uncertainty of where you will spend 30 whole weeks of your hopefully long and successful life can lead to a not-insignificant level of anxiety and worry.
