BATW Visit to Alcatraz Highlights Famous ‘Rock’ Gardens

On a bright and sunny June 17, 27 BATW members and guests assembled at Pier 34 to catch a ferry to Alcatraz accompanied by Sean Kelley, the Golden Gate Parks’ Conservancy’s Vice President of Visitor Programs and Services.
Deadline Extended for BATW Travel Magazine Submissions
We’ve extended the deadline for the Summer issue of BATW Travel Magazine to June 7 and invite you to submit your stories asap, if you haven’t already. As mentioned, it is preferred that your articles are tailored towards current trends in travel (for example, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or a feature about up-and-coming Croatia), but any and all topics are welcome.
BATW July Meeting: World Renowned Photographer Bob Holmes
Renowned Photographer Bob Holmes will teach us the tricks of the trade in an instructional one hour Zoom on July 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. Bob’s remarkable career started in his native Britain in 1975 when he covered the successful British Everest Expedition for Paris Match and the London Daily Mail. The following year he visited California for the first time at the invitation of Ansel Adams and in 1979 he moved to Marin County, California where he still lives.

BATW Members Lead Writers Workshop at Bay Area Book Festival
Peninsula bookstore Kepler’s hosted a set of writing workshops, last month, as part of the Bay Area Book Festival. Travel writer and poet (and BATW board member) Lalit Kumar led one he called, “Writing the Wild: Generative Poetry on Nature, Place and Adventure” in which he read and annotated some of the great nature poets as well as some pieces from his own collection, Yosemite of My Heart.
