In 1987, the Spitzers chartered their own weekly newspaper "The Sayre Record" to establish a locally owned hometown media for their community and county. Local readers and advertisers embraced the Spitzers' approach to community news and the paper continued to grow.
In 1997 the Spitzers purchased The Erick Beckham County Democrat weekly newspaper in the sister city of Erick just to the West of Sayre. The two newspapers became a single publication as one of Oklahoma's youngest newspapers merged with one of Oklahoma's oldest newspapers creating "The Sayre Record and Beckham County Democrat" which provided a much larger reader base and trade area for advertisers. The marriage of the two papers was a good one.
In August of 2017, the name was changed to The Beckham County Record and the news coverage began spreading east into Elk City providing comprehensive news coverage throughout Beckham County, offering a wide variety of community, school, and agriculture news for Sayre, Elk City, and Erick. Source

Eagles Win One & Lose Two
Eagles Win One & Lose Two Last week the Sayre baseball team played 3 highly competitive contests but were edged out of 2 of them. In the first game, Sayre traveled to undefeated Navajo where they took the loss by the score of 5 to 1. Sayre was shut out in the first 3 innings before they tallied their only run of the game in the fourth inning. In that inning, Tate Bawden led off with a single.
SWEETWATER
They didn’t find a pot of gold… but these Bulldog students did make rainbows in STEM! St. Patrick’s Day science at its brightest. Learning is the real treasure! Sweetwater first graders have been learning all about synonyms and antonyms! Students took turns playing a puzzle-matching game, where they practiced finding antonyms (words with opposite meanings). It was a fun, hands-on way to build vocabulary and strengthen reading skills.

ELK CITY
Five Elk City choirs competed in the OSSAA district 3 choir completion and all 5 received straight superior ratings!! Two Middle School groups earned the Outstanding Achievement award with the superior ratings and 3 high school groups qualified to state including JV Chorus. MS Tennis at the Altus tournament. Good job, Elks!

Here in Elk City and across western Oklahoma, we know that value deeply because we live here, work here and raise our families here. What we know for certain is that it takes more than talk to keep rural communities thriving. It takes action. As a hospital administrator, I see every day how access to health insurance affects the health of families in our community.
