Following last week’s announcement detailing the increase in Emerson College’s cost of attendance, some students said they felt left in the dark about where their tuition dollars are going and how much aid they can expect for the upcoming year. “What a lot of students are missing is that it definitely is common for institutions to raise prices, which many other institutions have even more so than we have,” said River King, a sophomore media studies major.

Keeping with an annual pattern, Emerson College announced its cost of attendance will increase again. Tuition, room, and board costs will jump 3.75% for the 2026–27 school year, President Jay Bernhardt announced in an email to the Emerson community Wednesday afternoon. The hike is a quarter percent higher than last year’s 3.5% hike. For the class of 2027, the cost of attending Emerson has risen by 14.25% in total since matriculation.

When Nyla Hicks Fernandes graduates this year from the Community Academy of Science and Health (CASH), a public high school in Dorchester, Mass., she will never return for a reunion or visit her favorite teachers — because there will be no building to visit.

Over a year has passed since Emerson College’s first generative AI course, AI and the Future of Filmmaking, was launched last fall at Emerson Los Angeles. The course at ELA was one of the first in the country to specifically teach generative AI filmmaking, according to professor Stuart Acher, who created and teaches the class. Other film programs, including at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, and New York University, also offer generative AI courses.

Marlboro College, a small liberal arts school of roughly 150 students nestled in the foothills of Vermont’s Green Mountains, shuttered in 2020 during the pandemic. But unlike 10 other small Vermont schools that closed their doors in the last decade, Marlboro’s story lives on through Emerson College’s acquisition of the school in late 2020. Though it’s been six years since Marlboro closed, the spirit of the school is still alive on Emerson’s campus.

When P. Carl assumed the position of faculty representative to Emerson’s Board of Trustees this semester, he did so at the request of his fellow professors. Having been at the college for over a decade as a senior distinguished artist in residence in the performing arts department, Carl made a name for himself among colleagues and students for being a beloved professor, a staunch advocate for human rights and social justice, and an avid birdwatcher.

Local college students are increasingly raising concerns about a lack of transparency and accountability from their school’s administrations. Earlier this year, these concerns made their way to Boston City Hall. On March 23, Northeastern University students testified at a about administrative transparency, accountability, student rights, and student representation at their university and other higher education institutions across Boston.

As hordes of students gather in the library this week to write papers and study for exams… actually, let’s be real: None of us are studying for real tests. Some Emersonians are putting the finishing touches on video projects, some are editing photos, and some still are piecing together presentations. One small group, however, set up the Bright Family Screening Room for a music video festival on Wednesday evening.

With a few late — or sleepless — nights left of the semester, many Emersonians have already left Boylston Street for whatever their summer has in store: quiet time at their family’s house, working some job or internship, or flying to another country to “study” abroad for a few months. Regardless of the sport, it’s no easy task to inherit a team that’s had two different head coaches over the last two seasons. But in baseball, where there’s a specific effort toward the mental fortitude of a player, Emerson’s squad has been in a jam when it comes to having the right mentality to succeed. Then came first-year head coach Billy Uberti.
