Rising over seven spots in just two years, Emerson College’s film program is now ranked fifth best in the country by The Hollywood Reporter. It trails just behind film powerhouses the University of Southern California and New York University, as well as the American Film Institute and Chapman University, both also in California.

A man died from severe injuries after he was discovered by police officers Wednesday morning at the intersection of Boylston and Tremont Street on Boston Common. Police have arrested an adult male in connection with the assault, but the suspect has not yet been booked. Homicide detectives were called to the scene early Wednesday due to the severe nature of the victim’s injuries.

It can be difficult for up-and-coming bands from across the pond to stand out in the US, but the UK’s Wunderhorse seem to be on target. With over one million monthly listeners on Spotify, multiple late-night appearances, and a few indie hits such as “Teal” and “Purple,” they’ve maintained a steady rise since their formation in 2020.

It’s challenging to find something genuine in live music nowadays. In a time of uniform radio hits, static stadium tours, and a sea of iPhone lights, Green River Festival in Western Massachusetts is doing something most music festivals seem to forget: encouraging festivalgoers to savor their surroundings.

Hidden among the large, looming buildings of downtown Los Angeles, the historic Belasco hosted rising stars of the rock world. Idobi Radio’s Summer School Tour, founded by Warped Tour co-founder Kevin Lyman, Eric Tobin, and Michael Kaminsky, is a traveling festival with the goal of promoting emerging artists and supporting local music scenes. The festival features five up-and-coming bands around the country, in addition to a local artist at every destination.

An investigation is still underway after three people were shot just before 11 p.m. Monday outside of the Union Bank Building in downtown Boston, police said. At 10:49 p.m., police responded to a report of three people shot at 216 Tremont Street, a campus building which houses Emerson services including the Wellness Center, the student employment office, and the Office of Financial Aid.

Following last week’s announcement detailing the increase in Emerson College’s cost of attendance, some students said they felt left in the dark about where their tuition dollars are going and how much aid they can expect for the upcoming year. “What a lot of students are missing is that it definitely is common for institutions to raise prices, which many other institutions have even more so than we have,” said River King, a sophomore media studies major.

Keeping with an annual pattern, Emerson College announced its cost of attendance will increase again. Tuition, room, and board costs will jump 3.75% for the 2026–27 school year, President Jay Bernhardt announced in an email to the Emerson community Wednesday afternoon. The hike is a quarter percent higher than last year’s 3.5% hike. For the class of 2027, the cost of attending Emerson has risen by 14.25% in total since matriculation.

When Nyla Hicks Fernandes graduates this year from the Community Academy of Science and Health (CASH), a public high school in Dorchester, Mass., she will never return for a reunion or visit her favorite teachers — because there will be no building to visit.

Over a year has passed since Emerson College’s first generative AI course, AI and the Future of Filmmaking, was launched last fall at Emerson Los Angeles. The course at ELA was one of the first in the country to specifically teach generative AI filmmaking, according to professor Stuart Acher, who created and teaches the class. Other film programs, including at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, and New York University, also offer generative AI courses.
