New Delhi: Police have detained a man after a video purportedly showing him assaulting a woman inside a mall in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district went viral on social media, officials said on Wednesday. According to the Ghaziabad Police, the incident took place at Jaipuria Mall in the Indirapuram area. The video, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday evening, showed a man and a woman involved in a heated altercation, during which the man allegedly assaulted the woman.
TVK govt's maiden budget today; new schemes, reforms in focus
Chennai: The TVK-led Tamil Nadu government will present its maiden Budget for 2026-27 in the Assembly on Wednesday, setting out its fiscal priorities and development agenda at a time when the state is grappling with significant financial constraints. Finance, Planning and Development Minister N. Marie Wilson will present his first Budget after assuming office, making the exercise a key policy statement of the new government.

Copper futures climb on spot demand
Copper futures rose by Rs 13.20 to Rs 1,360.45 per kg on Tuesday due to higher spot demand. Copper contracts for August delivery grew by 0.98 per cent in a business turnover of 2,449 lots. Analysts attributed the rise in copper prices to higher bets by participants.
Gold rises `100; silver stays flat
New Delhi: Gold prices inched up by Rs 100 to Rs 1,47,500 per 10 grams in the national capital, while silver remained flat amid a mixed trend in the international markets. The yellow metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 1,47,400 per 10 grams on Monday. However, silver prices remained unchanged at Rs 2,26,500 per kilogram, according to the All India Sarafa Association. Traders said gold witnessed modest buying in the domestic market, while silver traded in a narrow range.
Brent crude rebounds over 1% to $85.08/bbl
Crude oil futures rebounded by more than 1 per cent to Rs 7,761 per barrel, tracking firm global trends amid persistent concerns over supply disruptions despite renewed diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran. Crude oil for August delivery traded higher by Rs 116, or 1.52 per cent. It had closed at Rs 7,645 per barrel in the previous session. The September contract advanced Rs 109, or 1.46 per cent, to Rs 7,570 per barrel from Monday’s closing level of Rs 7,461 per barrel.
Silver futures rise on firm trend
Silver futures jumped by Rs 2,670 to Rs 2.19 lakh per kg tracking firm global trends amid optimism over industrial demand ahead of key US economic data that could offer clues on Federal Reserve’s interest rate trajectory. The white metal for September delivery increased by Rs 2,670, or 1.23 per cent, to Rs 2,19,416 per kilogram from Monday’s closing level of Rs 2,16,746 per kg.
Gold futures rise on fresh positions
New Delhi: Gold prices jumped by Rs 682 to Rs 1.43 lakh per 10 grams in futures trade, supported by firm global trends as investors awaited key US economic data for further cues on the Federal Reserve’s interest rate trajectory. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, yellow metal contracts for October delivery traded higher by 0.48 per cent in a business turnover of 725 lots. In the global markets, Comex gold futures went up marginally to trade at $4,061.58 per ounce in New York.
Dhoot Transmission sets price band
New Delhi: Auto components maker Dhoot Transmission Ltd on Tuesday fixed a price band of Rs 829-871 per share for its Rs 3,067-crore Initial Public Offering (IPO), which will open for public subscription on August 10. The initial share sale will conclude on August 12, while the bidding for anchor investors will take place on August 7, according to a public announcement.
