This week’s Cowboys summer project is one where we will have to keep an open mind on the unknown. There are things that we cannot know by looking at the past and the most significant one in player evaluation is the future. We will find some things in this report that are not ideal by quite a margin. That is life in professional sports. We have to guess and speculate and exercise some patience. Indeed, it is the case of Shavon Revel. The Cowboys 3rd round pick in 2025.
World Cup Journal Match Day 31
This is (almost) a daily World Cup journal I’m attempting, and have no idea how this will go. Let’s find out together. Oh, and feel free to join us daily for World Cup KickAround, on The Ticket. “Fans and viewers, this is your FIFA speaking. We’ve begun our descent toward the end of this World Cup, with only four games remaining. (Yes, four.
Monday Stack – Everything is Rigged and Fixed?
Back from a brief trip to Wisconsin and we find ourselves in that moment in July where our thoughts are beginning to turn. Baseball is at the All-Star break and the trade deadline is within reach. Our fling with the World Cup is about to come to a close in six days time. The British Open is upon us as we realize yet again how early in the summer the final major of the year occurs. And yes, football is beginning to move around a bit in my brain.

Oh, and feel free to join us daily for World Cup KickAround, on The Ticket. “How much did the loss to Belgium set soccer back in the United States?” By the end of Wednesday, this had shot up as the #1 question I’d been asked by fellow media, friends and listeners. The question itself is interesting because it leans into this idea I’ve been pushing back on for several years.
Mavericks needed shooters and here they are
The Dallas Mavericks have had a busy week, even if they are not going to break engagement records because they just signed a household name. They are not chasing those guys this summer as we understand the deliberate rebuilding situation for a completely new organizational braintrust. Masai Ujiri, Mike Schmitz, and Dusty May are working to build a team that can function around Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving. They have been given the green light to do what needs to be done with the roster.
Morning After - World Cup - Belgium 4, USA 1
Belgium 4, USA 1 - Full Time. This is how the end feels. There are 48 nations at this year’s World Cup and for about 40 of them, this is how they end up as they walk off the field in their final match. There are many variations of what is said in the aftermath and it is consistent in any language for every nation: “We are an embarrassment. Again.” “We are never going to get better. This is who we are.” “We have the wrong leadership.

And it was all going so well… What a grand time we were having, overcoming the pre-tournament wailing and gnashing of teeth over the appearance of shadiness between FIFA and the US Administration.

A quote from our friend, Lars, live on the radio Friday night as that happened. In the moment I laughed at the quality of the reference, but the more I thought about it the more I realized how well it applied.
Happy 250th To America And "Go, go, USA!"
I wanted to write something today that has been on my mind this week, but here is the funny thing about that – I usually know the destination about where I am going when I sit down to write. This one might be a bit different. This one might be more of a “start writing and see where it takes me” type essay. I am always fascinated by human tribalism.
A Few Hours After - World Cup - USA 2, Bosnia 0
We saw a special performance on Wednesday Night and the United States National Team will live for another week at the 2026 World Cup. In taking down Bosnia-Herzegovina by the final of 2-0, they won just the 2nd knockout game in USMNT history. In winning their 3rd game in a single World Cup, they did something a United States side has never done before. They now advance to play Belgium on Monday Night in another brilliant opportunity in Seattle.
