Cleveland International Piano Semi-Finalist Jonathan Mamora visited the University of Akron in a collaboration with Piano Cleveland for an 11-day residency, from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28. The 11-day residency at the University of Akron helped high school and college students grow their skills and connect with professional musicians. The Undergraduate Student Government invites students to learn from local and on-campus women leaders at the Women’s Empowerment Summit, in Student Union Room 312, on March 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The summit starts with an all-women student panel. Each panelist represents a student organization including Ignite, the Society of Women Engineers, Women in Business, Women in Psychology, and the Association for Women Geoscientists.

The Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing invites students to Marketing Career Networking Night, an opportunity to informally network with marketing professionals, in Polsky Building Room 567, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event begins with a panel of industry experts discussing topics relevant to developing students along their professional journey. Then, students go to stations that interest them to talk with marketing professionals.
Akron receivers generate excitement for the upcoming football season
Akron will open its football season in Fall 2026 looking to translate the offseason progress unfolding right now into results on the field. The Zips have multiple receivers with game experience returning to the roster and have added a strong slate of younger players and transfers who have begun to adapt to the system and the culture. This new combination is creating excitement in the off season.

The University of Akron’s Campus Cupboard will hold a large-scale food distribution event geared toward students on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Simmons Hall lobby. The two-hour time window provides an opportunity for students experiencing financial hardship to obtain nonperishable food items and hygiene products such as feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and other necessities for daily life and well-being.

Rubber City Theatre opens its month-long spring repertory season shows, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “The Verge” at the Sandefur theater, located inside Guzzetta Hall at 228 E Buchtel Avenue, on the campus of The University of Akron, beginning on Saturday Feb. 21. According to its website, the Spring Repertory Season features rotating repertory. This means the company presents multiple plays performed on alternating dates rather than one after another.

There is still time to see the 90th Juried Student Exhibition at the Emily Davis Gallery in the Myers School of Art. The exhibition remains free and open to the public through Feb. 27 during the gallery’s open hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The exhibition features student artwork in a variety of mediums including ceramics, photography, graphic design, sculpture, and printmaking.
Students Invited to Come Support University of Akron Track and Field Team at Indoor Home Meet on Feb. 20
The University of Akron Track and Field team competes at the Akron Annual Invitational on Feb. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. Fans can expect running, jumping, and throwing events to take place simultaneously throughout the competition. The UA Track and Field team has about 80 student-athletes, and a history of success. The men’s team won and the women’s team placed second at the 2025 Indoor Track MAC Championship.
The University of Akron’s Student Life Holding Giftcard Giveaway
Students who complete a bingo card will be entered into a drawing to win a $20 Amazon gift card. November 7, 2025 On Nov. 13, the Department of Student Life will be holding a gift card giveaway where 10 participants will win a $20 gift card. In order for students to enter, they must complete a physical bingo card. Cards will be available to students at the Pathways to Success Event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Student Union.
