The battle between prediction markets and tribes took another turn on Thursday. The Seminole Tribe of Florida filed a lawsuit in state court against DraftKings. The suit alleges DraftKings’ prediction market offerings, including a Pick6 game, violate the tribe’s exclusive compact with the state to offer online sports betting. The tribe filed the legal action in Broward County.

In August, Jason Koon stood alone as the newest inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame. By almost any metric, his accomplishments put him among the greatest in the history of the game. Yet, just days shy of his 41st birthday, Koon remains at the absolute peak of his playing powers. Koon’s tournament earnings tally currently sits at nearly $77.6 million, the third-highest total in the history of the game.
Las Vegas Casino Uses AI To Catch Advantage Players
Gaming companies targeting advantage players to keep them out of their casinos took another twist this week. Treasure Island Las Vegas announced a partnership with OPTX, a casino operations system that utilizes AI to monitor potential advantage players. The partnership began four months ago with slot operations, but has since expanded to player development, marketing, events, and table games, according to CDC Gaming. The technology also apparently flags successful players.
NBA Legend Charles Barkley Wants Sports Betting In Alabama
NBA legend Charles Barkley came out in full support of Alabama legalizing sports betting this week on an appearance on The Next Round podcast. The Auburn alumnus and Alabama native said that not legalizing betting in the Yellowhammer State was just “silly.” State legislators have made attempts to expand gaming in the state over the last few years, but those efforts have come up short. Several nearby states have legalized sports betting, including Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
Norway Proposes Online Poker Bill With Heavy Restrictions
Norway recently unveiled a plan for regulated online poker. Government restrictions, however, could hamper the growth of a regulated market in the Scandinavian country. Under a fast-tracked proposal released on Sept. 29 from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Equality, online poker would become legal but only through the state-run online gaming operator Norsk Tipping. The country would bar all outside operators.

Playing at a blackjack table in a Paris casino turned into a brouhaha for Offset recently, with the rapper heatedly arguing with staff. The Atlanta native, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, objected to allowing other players at his high-stakes table. According to TMZ, the former Migos member was wagering $10,000 to $20,000 per hand on a requested private table. Offset claimed he’d used a “disposable card” to signal that the table was private, but others still played.
Class-Action Lawsuit Alleges DraftKings Targets Problem Gamblers With AI
A new federal class-action lawsuit alleges DraftKings uses artificial intelligence (AI) to target customers who may be problem gamblers. The suit, filed in a U.S. District Court in Boston, involves a West Virginia gambler. He alleges the company “inundated” him with marketing after he lost thousands of dollars on the platform over several years. That allegedly included over 70 emails, texts, and other notifications over a single month pushing him to wager.
