The last time Alex Kostritsyn won a live poker tournament was more than 15 years ago. A side event win at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure joined his $1.45 million 2008 Aussie Millions main event victory among a handful of notable tournament results for the now 40-year-old Russian cash game specialist. He hadn’t recorded so much as a single tournament cash since 2018.

The last few days of the 2026 World Series of Poker offered a brief tease of a little more history. After this festival crowned multiple nine-time and eight-time WSOP bracelet winners late in the schedule, Erik Seidel got heads-up for a shot at his 11th career WSOP victory on the penultimate day of play. It was Seidel’s third deep run of the summer, and his first heads-up match for a bracelet since winning no. 10 at WSOP Paradise in 2023.

There’s only one more day of 2026 World Series of Poker action in Las Vegas, outside of the main event final table in August. As the latest series reached its end, David Peters scored one of the last seven-figure scores of the summer under the wire. The 39-year-old Ohio native won the $10,000 six-handed no-limit hold’em championship for his fifth career WSOP bracelet and a $1,001,391 payday. Peters defeated Fahredin Mustafov heads-up to seal his milestone bracelet win.
