Childcare spaces/staffing not fulfilled in Ontario
Ontario’s Auditor General says the province has not met all of the requirements when it signed onto the federal government’s $10 a day childcare program. A report finds commitments on new spaces and staff have not yet been achieved. The province received $10.23 billion over five years when it agreed to the federal program. Auditor General Shelley Spence says while childcare costs have been cut in half since 2022, demand has increased threefold.

Eagles take down the Bulldogs

Area forestry services company receives national recognition
The Forest Products Association of Canada is honouring a northwestern Ontario forestry services company. It has awarded Dallan LP with its Indigenous Business Leadership Award. The company is 100% Indigenous-owned and provides mill yard services to mills in Thunder Bay, Ignace and Atikokan. It was formed by Fort William First Nation’s Dale Levesque, in partnership with Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation and Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation.

Ottawa honours fallen police officers with annual ceremony
Ottawa is honouring fallen peace officers Sunday morning to mark Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. The ceremony began Sunday morning and was live streamed to the memorial’s social media accounts. The names of 912 officers are engraved on tablets behind Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and they were read ahead of the ceremony. Governor General Mary Simon says these people gave their lives to protect their communities and their fellow Canadians.
