Fireworks cancelled in Emo

Last Updated on July 1, 2026 3:16 pm A forecast calling for strong winds has prompted the cancellation of Canada Day fireworks in Emo. They were scheduled to be lit from Emo’s waterfront at around dusk. Environment Canada says winds are reaching 40 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h before diminishing overnight. New potential new taglines getting lukewarm reaction from Fort Frances council

Efforts to find a new tagline for the town of Fort Frances continue. Five potential replacements for the phrase Boundless were recently presented to council. Where Sunset Country Begins Hooked on Rainy Lake Canada Plays Here Our Northern Light Catch the Moment All were submissions based on public comments. However, none are getting strong support from council members. Councillor Kaleb Firth says he is drawn to “Hooked on Rainy Lake” and “Canada Plays Here” but does not see a clear favourite.

Canada Day celebrations planned across Rainy River District

There are plenty of events to celebrate Canada Day across the Rainy River District. Atikokan will host events at its Historical Park. It will begin at noon with opening ceremonies and celebratory cupcakes for the public. There will also be food, games and entertainment running during the afternoon. The Alberton Recreation Committee is organizing Canada Day activities in that community at Millennium Park. Events include bicycle decorating and parade, bounce houses and a food truck.
