While fantasy is a genre many people absolutely love, you might not be into it or just avoid it since it can seem complicated and exhausting. Depending on the movie, there are several elements and details that, if you’re just looking for something simpler, you can easily end up disappointed.

Hollywood keeps making the same mistakes when it adapts Japanese anime for American audiences. First, big studios cast recognizable stars in roles built around a specific ethnic identity, hoping spectacle distracts from the gap. Then, they try to dumb down a complex mythology and expansive world, sometimes daring to fit full seasons into a feature-lenght runtime.

There are many storied Fighting Game franchises out there, from the traditional Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat games to the more experimental Under Night In-Birth or Guilty Gear titles. Although a great number of series within this genre have origins in the arcade, projects like the Super Smash Bros.

James Gunn’s DC Universe is stacking wildly different genres onto the same release calendar. Last year, Peacemaker delivered raunchy, R-rated comedy on HBO Max, just a few months after Superman aimed for four-quadrant family spectacle in theaters. Currently, Lanterns swapped cosmic superheroics for a grounded investigative thriller, pairing John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) on a murder case.

Zach Cregger is bringing his vision of Resident Evil to the big screen, and that vision is lifting a specific point of view from the games. The Weapons director has been clear about what he wants to bring to the adaptation. He isn’t trying to recreate one of Capcom’s hit games scene for scene. The director is attempting to recreate the tension of playing them. The small details will matter in this film.

For many years, there wasn’t a more powerful psychic in Marvel Comics than Professor X, but that has changed. This is something that has changed slowly over the years, especially when it comes to the one person whom Charles Xavier mentored over almost anyone else. In fact, there have been moments in Marvel history when Professor X wasn’t even considered an Omega-level mutant, while other psychics were, even members of the X-Men who fought for Xavier’s dream.

The Multiverse Saga is building to a head in Avengers: Doomsday, when universes collide. According to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, “An incursion occurs when the boundary between two universes erodes, and they collide. Destroying one, or both, entirely.” The idea is lifted straight from the comics, where incursions played a huge part in the setup for 2015’s Secret Wars event.

The next James Bond movie is beginning to take shape. Amazon MGM has Denis Villeneuve directing. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script. The search for the next 007 is even rumored to be zeroing in on an actor. But, there are a few other Bond staples that need to be lined up before we can get the Aston Martin on the road. Who will be M? Which actress is going to portray Moneypenny? And the obvious next question, which actress is going to be the next Bond girl?

When people think about director Sam Raimi, there are certain movies that come to mind as being among his best. The first three Evil Dead movies come to mind, as does The Quick and the Dead, and even Drag Me to Hell. His Spider-Man trilogy also easily makes the list and, for many, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3 are not only among Raimi’s greatest films but his greatest superhero films, too.

Calling Spider-Man: Brand New Day “successful” is a bit of an understatement. The film garnered glowing reviews from fans and critics alike, with many calling it the best Spider-Man outing so far and others praising it as a return to form for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Its box office earnings have been just as impressive: It beat Avengers: Endgame‘s opening day haul, set other early-run records, and quickly became one of Marvel’s most profitable movies ever.
