Another good year for comics adaptations as Tatsuki Fujimoto manga Look Back and 2000 AD character Rogue Trooper make a cellular appearance at the BFI London Film Festival, taking place October 7 to 18. Also at the festival will be an advanced screening of the first two episodes of Marvel Studios TV series VisionQuest, and an adaptation of French bande dessinée mystery The Case of David Zimmerman, entitled The Unknown. Tickets go on sale September 17.

It reads breezily, leans into the genre’s inherent ridiculousness, and yet still leaves readers with a sense that something deeper and more meaningful is at play.

The Consignment Inventory Dispute in the Diamond Bankruptcy is not over, sadly. As we predicted, Sparkle Pop has filed an objection to the settlement between the Diamond Estate and the Consignment Group. As a third party in the agreement, they have a lot to say about why the publishers can’t just breeze into the Olive Branch warehouse and pick up their inventory.

Japanese pop metal group Babymetal are teaming up with Marvel on a variant cover for Marvel Zombies: War Zone #1, created by Phil Noto. The cover, which features the band stoically running from undead versions of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk, is limited to 3500 copies, each retailing for $35, and is available to pre-order now for a release on October 2.

Deadline reports Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place, Hamnet) has been cast in an unknown role in Avengers: Secret Wars. Despite not knowing who he’s playing, the site describes his role as being “a key part” in the sixth main Avengers film, which will go into production soon with directors Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm for a release on December 17, 2027.

Dark Horse Books and Albatross Funnybooks announced this morning that Eric Powell’s The Goon will be returning with new library edition reprints starting March 2027. These new reprints also seem to feature a slightly smaller trim size that Dark Horse’s previously oversized publications. Albatross, Powell’s self-started publishing company turned imprint, joined the Dark Horse lineup in 2022.

Few things are disquieting as a haunted girl, regardless of how many examples of them we have. Blame The Exorcist, Carrie, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Stigmata, Ringu, A Head Full of Ghosts, Huesera, and countless others that have graced books and movie screens throughout the years. Often, they’re agents of chaos that resort to dark magic to get what they want, be it power, revenge, or what is justly theirs.

Fathom Entertainment has revealed the short film attached to the 40th anniversary rerelease of The Transformers: The Movie is titled Optimus Prime: Awakening, and that it will feature the final performance from the late Peter Cullen. Cullen, who reprised the role of the titular Autobot leader before his death, aged 85, last week, reunited with Megatron and Soundwave voice actor Frank Welker for the 12-minute film, which will play after the movie’s screenings this month.
