A man from Crewe has been jailed after admitting causing the death of his girlfriend in Congleton. Matthew DuPlessis, of Richard Darrock Way, Crewe, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday (August 28) after previously pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs and perverting the course of justice. The 35-year-old was jailed for nine years and three months.

Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a serious crash near Crewe, leaving five people with potentially "life-changing injuries." At 2.32pm on Thursday 27 August, emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to an incident on Main Road, Weston, near The White Lion pub.
