LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- USDA has until Jan. 1, 2028, to rewrite a genetically engineered foods labeling rule after a federal court in California this week clarified the timeline to a new rulemaking. USDA's biotech labeling rule was developed in response to a 2016 federal law that for the first time required GE foods to be labeled. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 2025 reversed the U.S. District Court for the District of Northern California.

LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- The average retail price of most fertilizers continued to fall in the final week of July, as five of eight nutrients tracked by DTN were lower than the previous month. The average price of three fertilizers dropped significantly compared to a month ago, led by UAN32. DTN designates a significant move as anything 5% or more. The price of UAN32 dropped by 14% month over month to an average price of $459 per ton.

ELBA, New York (DTN) -- Christian Yunker has relied on H-2A workers on his western New York vegetable, grain and turfgrass farm for 15 years. MORGAN, Minn. (DTN) -- Farmers will get a two-month reprieve on their crop insurance premiums this year and USDA will also reinstate prevented planting buy-up coverage as well, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Tuesday. Rollins spent Tuesday morning at the Farmfest show in south-central Minnesota, making announcements on crop insurance and detailing USDA's plans to modernize and improve data collection for crop reports.
