USDA USDA and the Small Business Administration (SBA) signed a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) to combat “lawfare” against American farmers, ranchers and small businesses. “For too long, a network of government agencies, radical environmentalist (non-governmental organizations), and activist groups have targeted American farmers and ranchers,” USDA said.

DOJ settles egg price-fixing cases for $3.3M

The Department of Justice and 17 states filed a civil antitrust complaint and also entered proposed consent judgments with three major egg producers, alleging manipulation of egg prices. Cal-Maine Foods, Versova and Hickman’s Egg Ranch are alleged to have conspired to manipulate egg prices from June 2022 to March 2025. The complaint alleges the companies produced fewer eggs than their retail contracts required and purchased the shortfall on the Egg Clearinghouse Inc.

Agriculture seeks certainty during USMCA review

July 1 marked the start of the six-year review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), when the three countries will decide whether to extend the trade pact or allow it to enter an annual review process that could lead to its expiration in 2036. U.S. officials from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative were expected to meet virtually with their counterparts from Mexico and Canada to launch the agreement’s review process.
