A wildfire that sparked along I-94 west of Miles City on Tuesday was caused by an individual pulling off the roadway to light fireworks before driving away, according to Custer County Fire. “This kind of behavior is reckless, irresponsible, and completely unacceptable,” Custer County Fire said. “It takes only one spark to start a wildfire that threatens lives, property, livestock, and the people who have to respond to it.

The Missoula County Fire Protection Association announced fire danger in Missoula County rose to moderate. Warmer temperatures and drier vegetation drove the change, which took effect immediately, the association said. They warned that under moderate fire danger, fires can start easily in open dry grass and move fast when it is windy. Residents and visitors are asked to be careful with any fire use. Officials said campfires should stay small and be fully put out before anyone leaves.

A wildfire burning on the Tonto National Forest is estimated to be about 1,600 acres. The Sycamore Fire is burning north of the Globe area and west of the US 60, according to the U.S. Forest Service. As of June 17, the wildfire has 0% containment and is advancing in the northern direction. Forest officials initially said no communities or infrastructure were threatened by the fire. Ground and air resources are being deployed for extinguishment efforts.

Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire & Rescue put out a fire that started in a hayfield on Mathews Road on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters arrived around 1:30 p.m. on June 17 and found several hay bales burning after they caught fire during a haying operation. Crews worked with the field workers to stop the flames and put out hot spots. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes, stopping it from spreading into nearby grass and vegetation. The fire burned roughly one-tenth of an acre.

Brigham City Fire Chief Dustin Yates said crews responded to the fire near 400 North and Main Street just after 7 p.m. It was initially reported that three people were unaccounted for and possibly inside the mobile home.
