VIDEO: Multiple accidents over the weekend across Oahu’s roadways resulted in backed-up traffic for many, and left Honolulu EMS resources stretched thin. “There were so many different types of crashes that kept our EMS so busy over the weekend,” said Shayne Enright, Honolulu EMS spokesperson. “We had the crash that involved the pickup truck that we sent almost one-third of our fleet resources to.” EMS reported 11 traffic-related responses on Saturday, and 13 on Sunday.

VIDEO: Utah fire officials said a combination of historic drought, extreme heat and critically dry vegetation created “catastrophic” wildfire conditions over the weekend, leading to explosive fire growth across the state and straining firefighting resources throughout the West.

Two people were hospitalized with burn injuries following a house fire in Sandy. Monday morning, crews from Sandy City Fire Department responded to a house fire with the assistance of United Fire Authority. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the home. There were two occupants inside of the home when the fire started. Fortunately, both individuals were able to exit.

Firefighters responded to a new wildfire Monday afternoon on Bureau of Land Management land about 10 miles southeast of Monticello. The Dodge Fire was reported on the north side of Dodge Canyon and was estimated at 2 to 3 acres. The fire was burning in pinyon and juniper, and nearby structures were threatened. Crews responding to the fire included two engines, four single-engine air tankers, one large air tanker, one helicopter and an air attack platform.

PHOTOS: Heavy winds helped flame a fast-moving fire that engulfed several power poles and buildings in south Phoenix late Monday night. Around 10:45 p.m., Phoenix firefighters received reports of a pole fire near 8th Street and Southern Avenue. Crews found multiple power poles on fire when they arrived, with heavy winds pushing the flames to nearby buildings. Three structures, brush, trees, debris and power poles were scorched from the blaze.

VIDEO: Crews made progress on the Grasshopper Fire over the weekend, but according to firefighters, changing wind patterns have made it especially hard to predict the fire’s behavior. “This weekend we had a little bit of a wind challenge,” said firefighter Greg Barnum, a division suit trainee. “It pushed the fire in some areas that we thought wasn’t going to happen. But we had a contingency plan to stop that and so we’re looking really good.” Containment increased from 0% to 17% over the weekend.

Employees at a Lee’s Summit recycling center were forced to evacuate after material caught fire inside of the warehouse, Monday afternoon. Firefighters with the Lee’s Summit Fire Department (LSFD) responded to Lee’s Summit Resource Recovery Park on southeast Hamblen Road just after 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire inside the building. Upon arriving, heavy smoke could be seen coming from the building where inside a pile of recyclable material had caught fire.

VIDEO: Evacuation orders have been issued for a wildfire near New Hogan Lake in Calaveras County. The fire started near Hogan Dam Road and Gann Road. Cal Fire said the Gann Fire is burning rapidly uphill through grass and brush. The fire has grown to 1,800 acres since it started around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, according to Cal Fire. Evacuation orders have been issued for zones CCU-147, CCU-139, CCU-110 and CCU-109. An advisory is issued for zone CCU-130.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Members of a firefighting crew suffered minor injuries Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2, after their engine overturned near the Feliz Fire outside of Hopland. The five crewmembers, who were from the Shasta-Trinity unit, were in a Type 3 brush engine when it crashed at 2800 Feliz Creek Road. They were treated at a hospital before being released, said Sherri Wise, a spokesperson for the Cal Fire Mendocino Unit.
