North Lakes Fire and Rescue broke ground Thursday on a new fire station, ending more than 80 years in a building constructed by local residents in the 1940s. The current Sinclair station has no hot water, non-ADA-compliant bathrooms, questionable wiring and apparatus bays that barely accommodate modern fire trucks. During the pandemic, only six of the department’s more than 40 crew members could be inside at one time.

Two people were hospitalized with burn injuries following a house fire in Sandy. Monday morning, crews from Sandy City Fire Department responded to a house fire with the assistance of United Fire Authority. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the home. There were two occupants inside of the home when the fire started. Fortunately, both individuals were able to exit.
