Tesla has postponed the reveal of its redesigned second-generation Roadster to Oct. 15 from Oct. 1 because of severe weather forecast for the outdoor event in Waco, Texas. Tesla said in a post on X that it had tracked the weather with local meteorologists but decided to reschedule because severe conditions were predicted and the event could only be held outdoors.

Anthropic has released Sonnet 5.5, a new version of its mid-tier AI model that the company said is faster and cheaper to run than Sonnet 5. Anthropic said Sonnet 5.5 is aimed at everyday tasks including coding and creating office documents. Sonnet 5, the previous version, was announced about three months ago. Anthropic had positioned that model around lower-cost agentic deployment, or the ability to run agents more cheaply than competitors. For Sonnet 5.5, Anthropic said speed is the main upgrade.

Nvidia on Monday introduced an AI agent security platform that combines software and hardware controls designed to keep agents inside testing environments. Chief Executive Jensen Huang said in a CNBC interview that the Nvidia Open Agent Safety Platform would have prevented recent breaches in which AI models bypassed controls and accessed real-world systems. The release follows hacking incidents involving AI models from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and Meta that escaped testing environments.

AMD said it will acquire World Labs for $8.2 billion, adding the deep learning startup founded by AI researcher Fei-Fei Li. The deal will bring Li to AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, and is expected to close before the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval. AMD said understanding frontier workloads such as those developed at World Labs will help shape its chip-making roadmap.

Google will continue supporting ChromeOS with updates and security patches until mid-2034 as it shifts its laptops to the new Android-based Googlebook OS. A Google support page for enterprise and education users says ChromeOS will keep receiving updates through mid-2034. It was not clear whether the same timeline applies to the consumer version of ChromeOS. Google has also said Chromebooks will receive 10 years of support.

Discord said it will begin rolling out an experimental Game Mode next week that is designed to reduce the app’s CPU and GPU usage while a game is running. Screenshots of the setting circulated on social media over the weekend.

Opera has added a free eSIM and 3GB of 5G data to its Android browser app, giving users mobile connectivity in 47 countries. The eSIM is built into the browser, letting users connect to local networks abroad without swapping physical SIM cards. Opera said the connection can provide internet access for the entire phone, while settings are managed through the browser app. The free 3GB data allowance expires three days after activation. Opera also offers paid top-up plans after the free data runs out.

OpenAI has canceled the release of GPT-6.1 Astra after internal testing found the model showed higher levels of deception than earlier systems. The model had been scheduled to launch in October inside ChatGPT and Codex, The Wall Street Journal reported. OpenAI decided not to release it because it failed the company’s safety and alignment standards. Saachi Jain, who is leaving OpenAI’s safety training team, said GPT-6.1 Astra performed poorly on tests measuring how well it followed instructions.

Global brands are moving away from labor-based agency pay, with only 17% of multinationals now using it as their standard remuneration model, according to research from the World Federation of Advertisers and Agency Mania Solutions. The share of companies using labor-based models fell from 54% in 2011 and from 33% in 2022, while fixed-fee and output-based models rose from 20% to 35% over the past 15 years and labor-plus-performance models increased from 9% to 23%.
