Dickson County students participate in APSU symposium Brody Burgess, of Dickson, and Sarah Ahlheit, of Burns, participated in Austin Peay State University’s Student Research and Scholarly Activity Symposium in April. The event gives students across disciplines an opportunity to share their research through oral presentations or poster format. This year, 87 students across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs were given the opportunity to participate in the event.

SUBMITTED Former Creek Wood Red Hawk Brodie Balitsky won his fourth professional fight over the weekend to improve to a perfect 4-0 record. Balitsky defeated Alabama’s Christopher Cornutt in Hub City’s MMA Fight Night 12. The event took place Saturday in Jackson, Tennessee. The fight went the full three rounds, and Balitsky won by unanimous decision to retain his championship belt.

SUBMITTED Sixty-seven-year-old Michael Lampley, from Dickson County, recently proved that age is not a factor, winning two gold medals at the 2026 Tennessee Senior Olympics. Raw powerlifting was his best event, but he competed in the discus, shot put, bench press and deadlift as well. Between his raw powerlifting, bench press and deadlift, Lampley had a total of 960 pounds.

Dickson County’s new budget goes into effect July 1, and much of the budget remains status quo for the county’s upcoming fiscal year. The Dickson County Commission unanimously passed the budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year at its June 22 meeting held at the Dickson County Administration Building in Charlotte. County Commissioner Jody Britt (8th District) was not present for the vote.
