At least, for the most part they're new and interesting–however some cards are interesting but not exactly new, but more so updated for a new generation. Today we got a card like that, an iteration on a classic but with some important differences that make it special.

Zhalfir Art | Illustration by Jose Vega MagicCon Amsterdam held a Pro Tour, but even more exciting was the outline we got for Magic in 2027: All three in-universe sets were announced, and the one I’m most excited about by far is Zhalfir. Zhalfir takes us to an afrofantasy plane that’s been a part of Magic for years, formerly as a continent on Dominaria but now a full-fledged plane. It looks vibrant, exciting, and it's my most anticipated set of the year—but what do we actually know about it?

There's a new spoiler from The Hobbit, and I think it just may be one of these cards. Table of Contents show Chief Warg's Company is one of the biggest powerhouses we've seen in a while. It's a 5/3 for three mana, so already a very good rate to start.

Aside from commanders that spin tried-and-true themes, commanders that let you build in multiple directions get my creative juices flowing.

Jace, the Perfected Mind | Illustration by Chase Stone Reality Fracture has all the tools to be the set of the year: iconic characters, the culmination of a story arc, and a premise with major implications for both the story and the lore. It even has a single Commander precon. While we know very little about the accompanying Commander product—a single deck called Multiverse Reforged—the few details Wizards has slipped us make it sound incredibly interesting.

Last updated on July 22, 2026 The Great Goblin | Illustration by Miklós Ligeti The Hobbit refuses to stop releasing killer typal commanders as spoiler season picks up steam; we’ve looked at a great elf commander in Thranduil, and yesterday’s previews delivered an excellent goblin commander: The Great Goblin works with The Hobbit’s take on goblins and has cross-compatibility with amass from previous sets. Goblins in HOB use amass goblin, which empowers The Great Goblin’s its first ability.

Kamigawa: Titanbreach Art MagicCon Amsterdam introduced a surge of information about the in-universe sets for 2027: We’re getting three of them, and they include one set that mashes up a return to two favorite planes: Kamigawa: Titanbreach, in which Ikoria and Kamigawa are forced into conflict through the Omenpaths. As two fan-favorite planes clash through the Omenpaths, it’s time to see Magic’s first monsters versus mecha set with an undeniable flavor of Pacific Rim evident in its art.

Whether you’re developing a well-oiled Commander deck or trying your hardest to create a usable Limited deck, ramp can be tremendously important. Ramp is one of the bedrocks of good MTG decks. Lethality, wincons, and combos are the frosting, but card draw and ramp are the cake. Let’s get quite specific today and take a look at blue mana rocks.

The Master of Lake-town is an absolute combo machine thanks to its ability to make players mill cards whenever they lose life.
