Oil Up 3% as Hostilities Return to Hormuz 8/31/2026 | 8:23 AM CDT SECAUCUS, N.J. (DTN) -- Crude futures surged 3% Monday morning after U.S. forces struck an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first exchange of fire between Washington and Tehran in over a month following the end of a ceasefire. By 8:45 a.m. EDT, NYMEX WTI crude for October delivery rose $2.61, or 3.13%, to $86.01 bbl.

HEAVY RAIN FELL IN THE CANADIAN PRAIRIES, MORE RAIN COMING A pair of systems moved through the Canadian Prairies over the weekend and brought scattered showers. Some heavy rain and severe weather were noted, especially in Saskatchewan into far western Manitoba. The system continues eastward on Monday with more rain. The region will be the target of a couple more systems this week and weekend, both producing areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Along with grain elevators, farmer and commodity groups are warning the CFTC that allowing perpetual trading in energy markets would set a disruptive precedent for agricultural futures. They see the lack of expiring contracts and physical delivery commitment as a problem. Those features keep the traditional futures tied to the cash commodity. They also worry that perpetual contracts could siphon trading volume away from the futures contracts farmers, elevators and processors rely on for hedging.

December KC wheat is down 7 1/2 cents, December Chicago wheat is down 7 3/4 cents, and December MIAX Minneapolis wheat is down 6 cents. October crude oil is up $1.33 and Dow Jones futures are down 157 points. The U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.10 and December gold is down $23.30.

"We're physically removing it from roadsides and anywhere we see it," he said. NEW YORK (AP) -- The bond market swung Friday as investors built bets that the Federal Reserve may hike interest rates soon to get the nation's high inflation under control. U.S. stocks, meanwhile, dipped but not by much after economists said a speech by Chairman Kevin Warsh helped strengthen faith that the Fed will do what's needed to bring inflation down, even if it causes pain for the economy in the short term.

(DTN) -- Oil futures edged lower Friday, with crude benchmarks losing more than 4% on the week amid recovering tanker traffic in the Middle East. Diplomatic progress in the Persian Gulf also eroded the market's geopolitical risk premium. NYMEX WTI crude for October delivery fell $0.13, or 0.16%, to settle at $83.40 bbl. For the week, the U.S. crude benchmark fell 4.5%.
