Imphal: The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi Manipur (LNKR), a Liangmai student body, has condemned the killing of Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh following an alleged assault in New Delhi’s Kilokri. In a statement, the organisation said Vikram’s death was not only a devastating loss to his family, friends and the music community but also a disturbing reminder of the fear and vulnerability faced by people from Manipur and the wider Northeast living in the national capital.

Imphal: The mortal remains of renowned Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh arrived at Imphal Airport on Wednesday, with family members, friends and well-wishers gathering to receive the body and bid him a final farewell. Singh, who was allegedly assaulted in New Delhi and later succumbed to his injuries, was brought to his Thangmeiband residence after the family received his remains at the airport. Floral tributes were offered before the body was taken for the final rites.

Representational image Shillong: The ongoing dispute between tourist taxi associations of Meghalaya and Assam has seen a partial resolution, with the two sides agreeing to ensure the unhindered movement of tourist vehicles between the neighbouring states. Representatives of 12 taxi associations—seven from Assam and five from Meghalaya—held a marathon meeting in Shillong on Tuesday to address issues that emerged following recent tensions between the two states.

Aizawl: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has approved a proposed “Goodwill Deal” between Aizawl FC and Nagaland United SC, paving the way for Nagaland to have a club competing at the national level from the 2026-27 season, Aizawl FC said. The agreement seeks to promote football in Mizoram and Nagaland through the exchange of technical support, human resources and football-development expertise at both academy and professional levels.

New Delhi: Mizoram Education Minister Dr Vanlalthlana attended the national observance of International Literacy Day 2026 as a guest of honour at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on September 8, where Mizoram was recognised among states and Union Territories that have declared themselves fully literate. The programme was chaired by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary, with education ministers from fully literate states and UTs invited as guests of honour.

Urpad Beel Guwahati: Assam’s Urpad Beel, an important wetland in Goalpara district and the source of the Jinjiram River, has lost nearly one-third of its surface water area over two decades, with vegetation and built-up areas expanding sharply, a new study has found. Published in the International Journal of Geoheritage and Parks, the study found that the wetland’s surface water area declined from 4.84 sq km in 2003 to 3.38 sq km in 2023 — a net loss of 1.46 sq km.

Shillong: Journalists from Meghalaya and Sikkim got a first-hand look at Indian naval operations during a media tour of Kerala organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), visiting an Indian Naval vessel and key training and heritage facilities in Kochi on Tuesday. The journalists boarded INS Sunayana, where Lieutenant Naorem Nivash, the vessel’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Officer, briefed them on the ship’s capabilities, operational role and various onboard facilities.

A warm welcome was accorded by the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister of Manipur Y. Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, DGP Manipur, Mukesh Singh and other officials of the State Government. The Vice President was also given Guard of Honour immediately upon his arrival at the airport.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday condemned the killing of Chongtham Vikram, a musician and music teacher from Manipur, who died following a brutal assault at his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Khemchand Singh said no one should have to face violence or lose their life while seeking peace in their neighbourhood.
